Question Another Firewood?

Ok we're cutting Standing Timber on Government Land. I'm saying cut the larger stuff, limbs not splitting size but still good size. Everyone else is saying get the small stuff too to mix in.

I'm thinking we don't have long to cut what we can on 60 acres, while we are there get a load fast as we can and get out. Plus larger wood will last longer.

How far are you having to haul the wood, and how long is your permit good? If you have to haul a ways and time is short, I'd get the big stuff only. If it's next door and you have time, I'd take it all.

Years ago a church had a large tree cut down. It was easily three foot across. By the time I got there others had got the limbs. I sawed the trunk into wheels and rolled them up into my van for several loads. I figured I got the best of that situation.

I also cut wood in the National Forest. I never get anything smaller than a baseball bat. Just not worth my time or effort. I say cut the larger items, leave the rest and if you had time afterwards you can always pick it up.

You got the three month permit right? If you want, why not get another permit come April? The 20 dollars per 4 cords is a good price. At least that is what I pay here.

Hauling 18 miles. Permit is good until March 1.

I'm cutting on MDC Land Forester told me they are going to shut down all cutting on Government Lands, that is why he gave me until March 1. Plus never have been able to cut during Turkey and Firearms Deer Season.

I pay nothing. Pretty good price.

isn't there a requirement on what you have to take? Most foresters look poorly on waste.

Only thing is take the trees they marked. Last year 4 months after we cut I was talking with him found we had cut in the wrong area and he didn't care for me making my own road to the trees. He didn't say much but was clear he didn't want me doing it again.

Most I'm worried about now is mud. Not suppose to be cutting when it's muddy, well to me it is not what I call muddy. Yes a little slimy but I haven't had to run 4WD yet.

How do you define small? I don't usually go much smaller than 2-3 inches.
