What's your favorite seed catalog?

I've always ordered from burpee, and I've had good luck with them. They're fast and I've always had good germination rates. However, I don't know if I can bring myself to spend $6 for a packet of 25 seeds!

Lat year I bought from Gurneys, but I had terrible luck. I had about a 25% germination rate on my peppers and tomatoes. So they're out.

So my question is, who do you use for your seeds? I'll be starting seeds in a couple weeks and I'm wondering where to order from.

I order from Johnny's seeds and rareseeds.com mostly.

I just spent over $700 for my seeds for the season and that doesn't cover bean, pea, corn, potato, or garlic. Keep in mind I am planting for a 75 member CSA.

Here is the seed that makes my wallet cringe when I order - I got 50 seeds: http://www.johnnyseeds.com/p-8483-corinto.aspx

If you live in the Northeast I recommend Fedco seeds (Fedcoseeds.com). Their prices and varieties are outstanding and their catalog contains enough information as a course in horticulture.

Territorial. It is just down the valley. As a kid it was Gurneys catalog. Just didn't seem anything grew that good when Dad did buy from them. I only use local seed....James

My favorite one is so good I can't remember their name. CRAP! I think they're out of either Faribault or Owatonna Minnesota. Now, see what you've done? I have to go look for their catalog. As soon as I'm done listening to Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue on Spotify.

Fedco is in Waterville Maine with a warehouse in nearby Clinton

Johnnys warehouse is in Winslow and the farm in Albion Maine

My nephew lives near Clinton. I have visited Johnnys ... next time I am up there i will look up Fedco

Waterville is right up the road from Winslow.

Both companies field test what they sell.

I like the heavy stock and glossy pages of Rareseeds, not to mention they put on great festivals at Baker Creek. That being said I order mostly from Morgan County Seed, their catalog is no frills, their prices are great and their customer service is great.

Shumway is ok for some seeds. They are owned by Jung, which I have also used. Johnny's may not be the cheapest, but good selection and generally good quality. I never use Gurney. Some that are worth a look are Sustainable, Sand Hill Preservation and Victory.
