New garden here at a new place. I covered the sod with compost left by prev. owner and then a very thick layer of straw. It's about 40x20. News paper first was recommended but I didn't have any. Supposedly you can just uncover where you want a row and do very little tilling. I've checked and it did a very good job of killing the sod. It can be dry here and I hate to weed. Hopefully this will help with both.

Checked my garden today. Still got frost in the soil. Not much moisture there, but what is there is frozen still. Was 60 yesterday, 50 today.

Don't have to work mine up. Just rake it and plant. Might add some fresh compost on top after the pants come up. I'm going to try and get it mulched this year.

I turned the leaf layer under three raised bed squares today, covering them with some landscape fiber and figure to do two or three more tomorrow.

Garden is under 2 feet of snow, and it will stay that way until mid April... GRRRR!

Started turning the back half over, then my 8lb toy poodle decided to consume my 45lb GS puppy (he thinks he can, anyway!), so I had to tend to that and got side-tracked...back to it tomorrow.

I still have to repair/replace most of one side and all of the back fence where BIL dropped a tree on it...yipee!
