Question Any Ideas for temporary wall?

This is our poultry processing building. On the left wall is our sink and on the right
wall is our killing cone stand, scalder, plucker and freezers. The open front is fine during the warmer months, but we are planning on our first harvest being in March. The average temp here in central Virginia in March is between 36-58 degrees and with our luck some snow. A little too chilly for me. I was thinking of hanging tarps along the opening for a temporary wall. Anyone have any other ideas of keeping some warm in so we can run a propane heater so it's a little less miserable while we're elbow deep in chickens?

Do you have any access to square bales of hay or straw? You could use those with a tarp.....stacked in front of the opening.

I don't see any lights. Will that be a concern too? The scalder is going to give you some heat, and maybe if you work really fast you'll be warm enough!

have a square baler, but no square bales and around here everyone has round bales for sale.

There are four sets of LED lights hanging from the ceiling, they kind of blend in with the ceiling.

I might just look into having a fourth wall installed by the same company that we bought the building from.

Me, I would close in the 2 sides and install an 8' wide roll up garage door in the center. Add 2 windows, 1 each side of roll up door. For now cheap, tarp would help....James

A metal building with no insulation is going to be hard to keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer. A tarp will act as a cheap wind break that could be used for something else when not being used for the windbreak. A few front panels with a large garage door will keep the contents more secure from theft. Once you decide what you need/want with the cost/benefit ratio you can then make your decision.

I'd stay with the tarp idea. With no insulation anything you do will be less than comfortable on a cold day, but at least you can keep the wind out.

I was "going" to suggest a strip door, but it might be cheaper to have the builder install a wall!

I'd go with heavy duty clear poly sheeting...at least you'd still let the daylight in.

Roll-up tarp similar to grain truck tarps.

That is what I do with my hoops. I sandwich the bottom of the plastic between a 1" pvc pipe and a small strip of molding, a couple of bungee cords and a short bolt for a handle and I can adjust up and down as needed....James

The clear plastic sheeting will work. We've got our 30x50 pole barn split into a 30x20 work shop/storage area and a 30x30 living area using 6 mil clear plastic, and we can easily see a 20-30 degree difference going from the cold side to the hot side in the winter.

I just never would have built that building without a wall on this end with one or two doors.

As you can I would buy 2 inch thick 4 X 8 feet sheets of blue or pink foam and glue them to the walls.
Warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

I'd sure hate to lose free refrigeration when processing chickens.

A tarp is hard to beat for temporary.

If you decide on the tarp solution, check into used "billboard tarps" in your area.

All the billboards in my area are printed on reinforced vinyl tarps. There is a company in Minneapolis that sells the "signs" that have been removed. I never tried to source them direct, but have heard of people getting them cheap if you ask the crew when they are being removed.

I paid $70 for a 14'x48'. They are nice heavy tarps and don't shred in the wind.

I love those banners.
I have a lot of very large ones and quite a few smaller banners.
I get them right from the company that prints them in town. They are free roll ends that are all white and printed banners with some print defect in them or the guys on the cutting table made a mistake.
I am not really sure what they are made of but they are tough and the sun doesn't seem to degrade them at all.
I have found in you want to join them together you can use the PVC Primer and Cement.

Those billboard vinyls are great. A neighbor used a couple to temporarily roof his 30 x 50 barn. The sign company makes you use it where the sign isn't visible, and being near Branson MO, when you'd look up in his barn you were staring at Dolly Parton!

I wouldn't use hay bales because of possible fire danger.

check on craigslist under for sale - materials. lots of times i see sliding glass door panels going for cheap. if you get six or eight of them, frame them up side by side with 2x4's ang leave space for a solid door for ingress and egress.
