self cleaning ovens

I posted my dismay on the quick death of my "nice" oven and now that I am shopping for a new one the sales men have been so helpful to tell me the do's and don'ts.

don't use self clean. it gets too hot and fries the mother board. duly noted. not oven with self clean.

no electronics. duly noted. does not exist. whaa gave up my Chambers....

any hoo planed appliance death is alive and well.

IF anyone can tell me of an oven or anything else that lasts like the "good old days" I'lll pay a fortune. d

I feel your pain. I love my old gas stove and when my last one crapped out after 5 years, I bought another older style used gas stove for $100 and it's going strong after 3 years and when it dies, I already have another stored away.

The new appliances just don't seem to last.

Self clean doesn't fry motherboards if the venting design is good and the MB sits away from the oven.

Just look at the "reviews" on various sites when buying anything. You'll get the same opinion/reviews here only on a smaller scale.

I have had self clean with no problems. Granted, I protect the items I KNOW will run over, thus only clean it, maybe, twice a year.

The motherboard is fried in our 11 year old Frigidaire. Just ordered a Bosch induction range since we can't have gas. Sure hoping it lasts more than 5 years.

We chucked out our 90's model a couple of years ago and replaced it with a 1948 Electromaster. Even all the original light bulbs work.

I've got a 1940s Roper set up for propane. It will have to be pried out of my cold dead hands.
