AT&T Changing Terms of Service , DSL !

...............I rece'd an email from AT&T outlining their changes for their internet service(s) ! I have a DSL line , and they have been sending me ads about "U-verse" , which adds TV to my DSL line ! It looks as if they will eventually force me to subscribe to Uverse or they'll cut off all my DSL service ! I have TV with an exterior antenna and I receive more channels than I can or care to watch .
...............This change in their service must be occurring in many area's and effecting many customers . This is a prima facia case of what happens when there is NO competition between large companies........ , fordy

A.T.&T sux. Their heavy handed sales tactics lost me long ago.

Fordy, they are just pushing the TV. AT&T decided a few years ago that they would end DSL. You do NOT HAVE to get the TV! Yes, you will have to change to Uverse, but you will not have to get TV!!

To add to what has already been said -
We have AT&T U-Verse, both internet and the minimum TV package (we have had it for a couple of months now). We love it. The price for both was / is only $10 a month more than we were paying for JUST internet locally, and the internet speed is better, as well as the connection more reliable. Is it perfect? Nope, nothing is. But it works for us.
Secondly, you will certainly have the option to have ONLY the internet. They offered it to us, and the price was good (don't remember the specifics), but we were ready for TV (had been without for about a year and a half), so we did the package.
As for AT&T being heavy-handed, that may be so (I haven't experienced that as of yet, but won't rule out the possibility that I could), but I've had MUCH less problem out of them than I did DirecTV back when we had that a couple of years ago. Those folks were horrible.
Hope that all helps.
Blessings,
J

We had trouble with our At&T line constantly. They finally decided to switch us to their Uverse line. THey said it would be much faster. It's not but it isn't slower and we've hd absolutely no trouble with the line since. It cost us nothing for them to rewire our house. The TV part isn't available where we are yet...but we will probably switch to it since our Direct TV goes out anytime it rains or snows.

We had UVerse internet installed today, but wanted it as we are a mile from the DSL box and although we've been paying for 6 MBPS we've rarely received more than 2-3, and with my children doing some school work online it's been a pain. The installer said they are phasing out DSL and will soon force everyone on DSL to change. You do not have to get TV (it is not available yet where we are) but they tried to sell us a Direct TV package which we refused. I would prefer to have cable internet but it is not available where I live. Have tested the UVerse and we are getting about 7 MBPS right now, so it's faster for us than DSL ever was, and also less expensive. It took him about 3 hours to complete (had to wire to where the modem is), but most of that was outside work.

I went through the switch from DSL to U-verse---no tv bundle . .. It is $15 a month-----but the big catch is that after One year the price will jump to $40 a month.
So far U-verse has been better than DSL------which had a speed just a tiny bit more than dial-up.....

I have little choice where I am at. Cable is 600' away. I am in the shadow of a very large hill so I can't get a good small company dish service coming off a cell tower. And I have read way too many stories about satellite offerings.
Nor will I pay $100+ for a bundle with tv . ......since I have no desire to pay for 150 channels of insane JUNK tv.......

What will I do when the price goes up to 40 . .?????.......stay tuned
