Burning Of Our Property?

Around here most burn their woods every year. I would but we have Cedar Trees about 5 years old and I would like for them to just grow, give us more privacy.

Neighbor come by today wanting to burn my place and his together. In truth it would clean our place up. If I was wanting to put Goats on the place I would burn it but anymore I'm just not interested.

Only thing is to besides cleaning the place up, the Cedars would make it burn much worse if it should accidently catch fire, burn them back less danger.

In truth I'm not wanting to burn it?

Thought??

Here is fire in Cedars close to here few years ago.

We're not in the Ozarks but we are close. We don 't burn our trees. Our property is set up for goats and we just let them graze between the trees. They love it.

How bad is your property? I understand the reasoning behind controlled burns, and they have their place. It can minimize both the damage and the danger from an unintentional fire. But I have to admit, I'd be very leery about anyone setting fire to my property. If something goes wrong, are they going to be responsible for the damage?

I have 10 acres and simply brush hogged it. Then I trimmed up the low branches to keep from running into them. This year I spend about an hour cutting cedar trees with a bow saw. This allows me to keep my property line cedars to catch dirt dust and have some privacy.

I wouldn't ... Many times, burning will encourage stronger weed growth in the future...

I'd want to know why the neighbor would want to burn mine.. sounds like hes afraid he can't control it so if it just happens to get to your property.. well...

Well yes it would be easier to burn both ours at the same time. If his gets away it would be hard to sop once it got on me.

If we just started it on me and on him and burn it together it would be no danger getting away.

If he sets his and it gets on me now days he is responsible where in the past he wouldn't be.

Only reason I would burn is to encourage more undergrowth for Goats if I was to get them. At this time I just want to let Cedars grow for year round privacy. If I let them get bigger and fire gets in them yes it could get very dangerous.

Well I raised Goats close to here, Forestry was scared to run Dozer in there to cut Fire Lines. I got to where we would use Leaf Blowers blow out Fire Line around my place. It was pretty easy we had dirt Trail running along one side and year round spring running down the middle. With Goats after few years it completely changed what was growing, we started having some grass which allowed to put a few calves on the place.

Use to be people would just walk back in the woods and set them on fire, so you didn't leave home March -April. Use to be Forestry would ask all to help, spent many days and night cutting Lines and Setting Back Fires. One time they was to busy in another area, had me working on one fire. Wasn't long it turned into three fires, my wife went up on the road, flagged down Forestry Truck got me some help. They turned a Dozer over by my place, Guys were scared back there.

Now they won't let anyone help got so called Trained Experts because of them a fire that shouldn't have gotten anywhere went several miles. killed thousands of acres of trees and burnt houses. I've told them how I felt, old man listening knew I was right.

Oh actually even though my New Neighbor don't join him seems they are already causing trouble with him. They are old Hill People too so we get along.

Could just blow a Line on my side that way when it burns would burn up hill towards his place and he could just burn down hill from his place.

Forester told me I should do something on my place. I have Bush Honeysuckle. It is not bothering me but it is invasive. Only way to get rid of it is to burn for 3 years or cut and spray it. Know lots of Guys saying fighting it is a losing battle. I might just cut it give my Cedars better chance.

How extensive is the wooded area? How hard is it to make sure the fire doesn't get out of control? I've heard of control burns that have gotten out of control when the wind unexpectedly shifted.

Ok Houses are close, my place is thickets. Leaves don't bother me, grass is a different matter and there is few places with grass. Oh I'm sure someone will insist the Fire Department comes out that is one reason this neighbor is also upset with our New Neighbor. He was burning and they called the Fire Department.

We burnt my oldest Sons 5 acres off, with plenty houses around but we was dealing with mostly Leaves. Scared him so bad he has never asked us to burn his place again

Well you should tell the fire department you are aging to burn so they won't respond to some false claims that the woods is on fire. If they come out so be it.

Yea we would probably tell them. Was burning in the City one time had to get Permit which we did. We was burning here comes Fire Department. They came told us all the Regulations we were breaking but wasn't going to write us up because it would take too much time

Oh Guy over the Fire Department said there is only two Guys in the County he would trust to light a match and I'm one of them.

Goats will keep your honeysuckle in check and they are a lot safer than burning. I wouldn't do it.
