Electric Goat Fencing

Wondering what configurations some of yall are using for your portable goat fences. Polywire vs Polystrand? 1, 2, 3, 4 wire? How to corner post it? What brand/kind of pole?

for portable we use electric net. Had some problems with it in the past but this year it went OK.

We use electric net fence for many of the animals on or farm. We have used single, double, and triple wires for goats specifically, but each had it's problem. The nets are pretty much goat proof as long as you keep them HOT! Don't let the goats figure out they aren't electrified, or they can get tangled in them, which can be fatal. We've only had that issue once, but thankfully rescued the goat before bad went to worse. They stay in them almost year round, though. Keeps goats in and coyote out, which we like!

Goats I always use Woven Field Fence with strand of Barbwire along the top. Only thing I would do different is strand of Hot Wire about half way up and one just below it. To keep Young ones from sticking their Head through it and keep them all from riding on the Fence.

I never had any get out. One time I was moving them, half was already in the field I wanted them in, the other half jumped the cross fence not realizing they had done it.

Just being pedantic here, and it is something I am as guilty of as anyone, but by sticking an object between a modifier and another object, you can create some strange ideas.

In other words, there are no electric goats that I am aware of.

I have a 5 strand high tensile perimeter fence, 4 strands hot. For internal divisions I use 3 strands of poly wire on plastic step in posts. The post are 10 paces apart. I could get by with 2 wires if it was only adult goats. The key is to have a good charger and ground system. I have at least 5000 volts in the fence. New goats might touch once, but then they respect it. It's useful to train them to the fence in a field fence enclosure with a hot wire inside. I love electric fence.
