Boy! I fooled myself good this time !

I went to the garden the other day and pulled some turnips, all over the size of a softball. Figured I'd get them out of the way to allow more room for growth.First thing I did was wash one up and munch on it raw while poking around on HT. Since the hard freeze the turnips are much milder and sweeter so I was enjoying it.
A couple days later my wife fixed a burger and fries and mac&cheese.I dug into the meal only to find what I thought was fries was actually slices of pear! I couldn't figure where she got a pear this time of year as I only raise bartletts and by the texture of this it was an O'keeffe. And why would she slice it up to look like french fries.
A couple hours later I thought I'd give her a hard time about not being able to tell a potato from a pear.Well, that came back to bite me! My pear that I thought was potato was actually,(you guessed it!) Turnip!
She had as much fun with that as I thought I was going to have! Joke's on me!

Had a decent sized crop of Turnips a couple years back and tried turnip fries for the first time - not bad. I wouldn't want to have them all the time but they are a nice (and healthy) change every so often.

I love turnips any way we do them.
Parsnips too.
If want to keep them for yourself do not hand me a rutabaga either.
All of them are yummy food.

Wade that is so funny! Yes, the joke's on you. Next time take a small knife with you and, instead of eating the "tops" of those turnips raw, dig up the root (peel it) and nibble on it....yummmmm

I like chunks of turnips boiled in with mustard greens then served with cornbread.

That's what I do! I don't have a problem with turnip greens but they are not my fav. I do love the turnip itself though!
