little white bugs

Please forgive me if this is not the best place for this topic. I still haven't figured out how everything on this particular board works...

My oldest daughter was in the process of making some tea. AFTER she got a tea bag out for me she mentioned some TINY white bugs on the box... At first I thought... "oh great, did this package of tea bring in some sort of bug from another country?"
So, I went and looked. I couldn't even see them at first they're SO small.
As I thought about it... I didn't figure they were from the tea... especially after I noticed they were only on the outside of the box.
So, I looked at the countertop where the box of tea had been sitting and looked around... There happens to be two bananas there and they are COVERED in those bugs. These things are TINY and NOT wormlike, as you'd see with fruit fly larvae. I took a couple of macro shots but you can't really see much. They're whitish... ovalish... can't really see any distinguishing features. I've never seen anything like that.
We've battled fruit flies a time or two and I'm QUITE sure that's not them...
What in the world could it be? Any ideas? I don't even know what to search for online......

I like bugs... just not lots of them inside my house.

Went ahead and finished making the tea... Fairly sure they weren't inside the box and also figured if any of them were in there, the hot water would deal with them and I wouldn't even notice anyway they're THAT small...

Anyway...

I know what weevils look like... I'm not thinking these are that. These are smaller than any weevil I've ever seen and there are hundreds upon hundreds of them crawling around that area. I made a mistake last night and left them. It was late and I thought they'd stick around where it appears they started... on this little kitchen island, one of those ones you can move around. There's now a few on a chair and the kitchen table...
See these dots...................
They're not much bigger than that. Whitish... and no apparent shape to them, well... you can't see where the head is and that sort of thing... possibly just because they're THAT small.
I'm going to go clean up as much as I can but, I'm certainly not going to find every last one of them.
Wish I had a clue what they were... where they came from... and what they eat.
Just odd........

Edit: We did just get some food from a food pantry last week... not 100% sure but, that could be the source.

That sounds like aphids. A few dozen asian lady beetles should take care of them. Of course, then you have to kill the asian lady beetles.

Check for any stored and rotting potatoes or onions. That could be a source of the infestation.

Sounds like what I had - I took in some parsley I had in a pot growing outside. Yesterday I looked and there were tons upon tons of little white dots on the leaves. When I touched one it flew away. My mom said they were aphids so I took the entire pot and set it outside where it froze. Sorry, little buggies!

2dogs-mom, what you had were probably whiteflies.

As for the banana bugs, I'm not really sure what they are. I've had them on bananas before. And yes, one day they aren't there, the next they are everywhere.

Could be springtails, thrips or the larvae of fungus gnats, they are all white and oval shaped. It won't be aphids as aphids don't go for bananas or dry goods. Do you have houseplants? If so you should check the soil on your houseplants for the same little white bugs. I'm thinking the smell of the bananas attracted something you already have in the soil in your houseplants. Or if you have any root vegetables stored in a cupboard in the kitchen they might have come in with insect eggs on them that have hatched.

A couple months ago I brought in a tomato cutting hoping to try to grow tomatoes in my sunny kitchen window but not only did I bring that clean-looking tomato slip, I also brought in white flies that have infested my African violets and other houseplants. Tiny white dots all over them!

Sounds like some type of mite. They tend to show up in my worm bin if I put too much food in there. Nothing much to worry about usually. Might be able to put out a banana peel and get them to congregate on it and then toss it out.
