open area in Northeastern alabama

Does anyone know if there is any open ground in northeastern Alabama. Everything we have looked at has no more than 3-5 acres with a house. We are looking for an area where the closest neighbor is no closer than a mile or two.Are there any small farms , everything seems so crowded, we have looked in DeKalb , Cherokee, Calhoun, Jackson counties . These are the areas we a still interested in. Any help would be appreciated.

Impossible. There is no area in Alabama where there are four miles in a square with no habitation, other than perhaps Bankhead forest or other protected land. A quick look at Google maps will show you that. There are a few roads less densely settled, like going north from Paint Rock. You have to get into Wyoming or Montana to get to such low density populations. An area sitting between Atlanta, Birmingham, Chattanooga, and Nashville is no way going to be like that.

thanks for the info. I was pretty sure that would be the answer but was hoping that we would be lucky enough to find something.We have taken driving trips all around that area every time we went to Alabama and it seemed very populated.thanks again.

With all that said, DeKalb county has land for sale and is some of the best farmland anywhere. The thing about DeKalb and Sand Mountain is that you can be well away from anyone, but it won't be a mile or more. Land is cheaper on the Sand Mountain side than on the Lookout Mountain side. DH's relatives still own huge chunks of land on Sand Mountain. No, it is not and probably never will be for sale.....family land and lots of family would love to have it!

Like others have said, nothing that remote in Northeast Alabama. You might be able to find something closer to what you want in West Alabama as some areas or more remote than the East side. We've heard of a lot of retirees moving from the north into North Alabama and North Georgia. We go to a campground regularly on lake Guntersville, and were there last week. There were several people camping there that are scouting out the area for retirement, all from up north.
