HAND,FOOT&MOUTH (now) WITH A TWIST !!!!!!!

Some of you may remember a bit earlier I posted a thread about getting HFM from my grandson. I have recovered and back to normal(I thought).Day before yesterday I worked in the woods all day cutting firewood.Yesterday I got up a bit before daylight and flipped on the tube only to find it was so bright I couldn't open my eyes. They really hurt and teared up and closed. Especially the left one.(That was the side I had HFM on).
I couldn't figure out what was going on but I did remember having eyeritous (spelling) back in 1997 and that is what it felt like!Of course when you are healthy the doctor hounds you to death to come in and get a check up or something all the time but when you really NEED a doctor you have to wait for ever. That was the case yesterday. NO,you can't just go see the doctor and if you go to the ER the VA will NOT reimburse you!Anyway the earliest I could be seen was 11:00 today. So I suffered through the 30 hours of pain eating pain pills and tearing none stop all day and all night.I stayed in the basement with all the blinds closed wearing my sun glasses and still couldn't stand the light the computer put off so couldn't even stay in touch with you guys!
So I finally go to the doctor and boy did we both get a surprise! He numbed my eyes and the pain went away in seconds! After a long exam he concluded that the HFM had set up house in the iris of my left eye! I guess this is supper rare! He took a bunch of pictures to document it and to refer back to.He gave me some meds. and a script for eye drops and told me the meds I had taken would were off shortly and he was right. I was back in pain and light sensitive before we got home!
The bottom line looks like I'll be in the basement for a week or so but at least now, when the sun starts getting low I'll be able to get on HT !

Later,

Wade

It is close to Halloween. Beware of people with stakes and silver crosses. I predict that if you have a blood meal or two and some rest you vill feel bettah in November. <Wah ha ha *evil chortle*>

Well that MUST have been a shocking diagnosis. It is extremely fortunate that your doctor did not miss this supper rare development. Many would have. They are trained to look for horses not zebras. Hope you get well quickly and with no more complications.

So sorry Wade! How miserable. There's a pretty good outbreak of it in Connecticut right now, not sure why all of a sudden unless some of the immigrants brought it in.

Sure hope you get some relief quickly! In the meantime just pretend you're a big star...they wear shades all the time, lol!

Iritis is an auto-immune disease where the immune system attacks the eye. It is very painful, and makes the eye light sensitive. It is treated with steroid eye drops to cause the inflamation to go down. Many doctors who are not opthamologists aren't familiar with iritis. Our opthamologist always tells us that when we have a flare we are to get in to see him right away, and his nurse knows it too so we usually get in within a few hours.

If you have a history of iritis, you should be under the care of an opthomologist, in my opinion.
