Apple Butter Boil!

Thursday last week I picked up 7 bushels of apples from an orchard. They were libertys and all No. 2. Even with good parers it took me 8 hours to peel and core them all on Friday. Saturday I pressed 4-1/2 gallons of cider and started cooking. I had 5-5 gallon pails of apples, once cooked down I added 20 pounds of sugar 10 bags red hots and 1/4 cup cinnamon and a few teaspoons of ground clove. Was beautiful weather and we made about 90 pints.

Umm Yummy, wish we had "smellernet" LOL. Y'all were having way too much fun. I thought the neighbors in the background had interesting body language

Do you have any more precise pictures of your apple smasher? I would love to see the actual smasher

Sandsuncritters, I assume you meant the cider press? The grinder is quite efficient, some say it grinds a little coarse, but we often get 3 gallons a bushel and that is pretty typical. I broke down an put wheels on it, getting to old to tote it around though it didn't help the looks. I bought the metal parts and built the wood myself as otherwise it was too expensive, heck it was still too expensive.
