timberline saw sharpener update

Okay, so I bought this. Love it. It is as easy to use as advertised, even for me. Very easy to set up and really gets the chain sharp. I'd recommend it.
haypoint and driftwood like this.

Looked at them in operation on youtube. Looks like a worthy investment. How long do the carbides last?

It does not appear to do the height of the rakers though.... ? I'm a fan of the husqvarna rolling file

No you still have to file the rakers. I think the carbide are supposed to last for about 40 sharpenings.

It looks like a clever little jig to hold the angle and then the only difference being rather than pushing a file your turning a rotary file

glad people have an option but I just have never had a problem with a round file and holder so long as i clamp the bar in the vise , I find that faster and many already have a vise

I even mounted a vise to the trailer i take wood cutting

Funny this topic came up today.
On Saturday at a local swap meet I paid only $20 for a used once Craftsman chainsaw. It is a 42 CC 18" bar and really only used once in it's ten year life.
Yes the original receipt is stapled inside the manual. It is in a nice case. It came with a set of ear protection muffs, a quart of bar & chain oil, one small bottle of 2-cycle oil to mix a gallon of fuel , the manual, the wrench / screwdriver and a canvas firewood carrier.
Today I even fired it up and cut a couple branches off a dead tree that I am going to cut up for firewood. I started and cut that wood with just the gas and bar oil that was still in the tank. Really, Just twenty bucks.
It looks like they tried to cut a rock with it because three teeth need help.
On the way home I picked up a 3/16 X 8" chainsaw file and a file handle. What a rip off I paid just under half what I paid for the whole saw just for the file and handle.

I don't even use a vise. I sharpen saws fast then they cut great.
I didn't have a file with me today and that dead tree has a lot of wood in it and looks like it wants to go the wrong way. When I go back to get it I will just take a rope with me. Then I know it will fall where it is easy to cut it up.
I have several other trees that Mom wants me to cut down but I told her they are too green now. I will cut them this Fall for next year's wood.

re; timberline sharpener

I'm impressed, just not $99 impressed. Looks like it will work fine. I use a dremel tool with a round stone and can sharpen fast. Use the tool to grind down the rakers also.

The thing I like the most is that I sharpen each tooth equally. I can't do that with any accuracy by hand sharpening. Still very impressed with how well it works.
