Electric Fireplace?

Ok we are going to use our wood Fireplace to heat our House. It is in the Front Room.

In my Man Cave I have a Vent less Propane Heater, does Good, we will have our Propane paid for.

My wife knowing how I like a Flickering Fireplace checked about getting one for my room using Vent Less Gas Logs we took out of Fireplace.

Going to cost $1000 but Electric one same style $600.

Ok since I'm such a nice Guy What would you do?

Get a cheap TV with DVD input and buy a video of a roaring fireplace since you only want the effect not the heat.

You can buy very cheap little electric fireplaces that only flicker, but when you need it, you can heat a small space with it, economically. If you turn the other rooms down low and just heat the room comfortably, where you are. They have a thermostat that will have the heater come on at a certain temp, while flickering all the time, too....James

For me it's just cost prohibitive to try to heat that much room with an electric fireplace. I have mine in my bedroom and it works nicely, and not to expensive to run in a smallish room.

The room isn't that Big but I think the same. Considering we have Winters worth of Propane paid for, leave the Heater that is already in the room, see how the Wood Fireplace is going to work

Plus we will use it to heat this whole end of House if needed.

I'm probably stuck with the space heaters again this winter. Hoping I will see a big difference with a skirt on the house, but I paid through the nose last year and could barely keep it liveable when the wind was up

Ventless propane puts a LOT of water vapor in your house can can lead to mold/mildew.

It also releases some gasses if not burning correctly.

Ventless is dangerous.

Neither.....

Honestly I have had both and they work ok but use a ton of propane.

Just a thought....
A pellet stove would be much more efficient of you have a place to vent it.

My inlays have a propane heater that you can see a little flame in works good but propane is not cheap here $3.65gal right now. I vote standard unit

Fireplaces typically send a lot of heat and air up the chimney, and don't put much heat in the room or house.

They also heat one room, but not the rest of the house.

So, they tend to be a poor way to heat, be they wood or gas.

I'm probably biased because I live in Minnesota where it gets really cold for really long periods of time.....

It doesn't work well to put a fireplace in one room here and upset the distribution of heat throughout the house from the main furnace. And it is just folly to try to heat a whole house with one fireplace here....

In more moderate climates it probably works better?

Gas is cheap.

Wood can be cheaper, but more work.

Electric is expensive.

If I need a few degrees of heat from time to time I would use an electric heater that costs $60.

If I need to heat a portion of the house for real I would go with a wood or gas heater. I would not like a ventless unit in a house.

I find the electric 'fireplaces' to be overly expensive for what they are, and expensive to run, and look fake and silly after all that, so I just wouldn't bother with an electric fireplace at all.

Um, what was the question again?

Paul

Ok we had enough problems getting Insurance on the Fireplace, I'm thinking Pellet Stove is out.

I am aware of Propane and Gases and Moisture, used them for many years. But also take into consideration Wood Heat dries stuff out, how many times have I put Kettle of Water on Wood Stove to put moisture in the air?

Fireplaces are not to be very efficient. we asked about ours with the way it is set up we should get 12 Hour Burn after filling it but were told not to fill it that full because it will run us out. It is to heat 3500 Sq. Ft. we have 1800 Sq. Ft.

Last Winter we ran Vent Less Propane Log in the Fireplace, it was to heat up to 1000 Sq. Ft. it had settings from 1-5 we kept it set on 2, kept it 80 degrees in the whole House. We also had Vent Less Heater in Man Cave set it on 2.

We used 900 Gallons of Propane the whole Winter which was one of the longest and coldest in many years.

Those Electric inserts, as in all space heaters are 1500 watts at 110v There are SOME at 220v but Still are ONLY 1440 to 1500 Watts at 12.5 amps/
And that is no better than ANY Space heater for 50 bucks for that same 1500 Watts... Period.
I have a nice Room Space Heater fan forced two settings 880 and 1500 Watts. And costs about 85 bucks, air comes out the Top and you can direct flow from straight ahead to a more vertical air flow. Been using it for 3 years now and is wonderful and I have yet to use it on the highest setting. LOL
Keeps the bedroom nice and warm and has a Remote Control also. YEAH
