Selling pine trees

I had a fella mention to me I should let someone come in to the wooded area out back and cherry pick through it to cut down the small pine trees. He said I didn't need or want them anyway and it would be a good way to make some cash. Apparently they think it's it's odd that I don't want to clear out the couple of acres back there, as all the neighbors around me have done. I like the woods back there for the goats but could do without some of the small pines, right?

If you can clear out some of the smaller, stragley pines, it can make for a healthier forest. Not clear cut, just clean it up some.
Guy down the street feeds his goaties trimmings from the Cedars we have around here.

Before you hire someone, ask to see other properties he has worked on. They can destroy your forest if they aren't careful getting out the small stuff.

Also, there's not much of a market for small pine. Don't imagine that this is going to make you much money.

With the pests that are decimating pine stands in the south, sometimes it can be better to take the money and run rather than have to deal with dead trees and fire hazards.

Unless it was chips and they took it all, I wouldn't want the mess. A small outfit, done right, maybe. Can't imagine with the cost of moving and set up there would be any money in it. Modern logging leaves a mess, somewhere....James

If i read right you said couple acres . If that is correct no one in their right mind would move their equipment to your location for a few small pine trees if they were free. Sounds like the guy telling you this is not in the logging business nor has ever been .

Now if you got a few white oak 30'' D. B. H. and no defects first 24' that is a different story . But SYP (translated sorry yard pine ) I have my doubts .

We had about a dozen good size pine trees we wanted to clear. Easily accessible. We couldn't give them away.

Wonder why this guy would have told me this ? He didn't offer a contact name and he wasn't the one wanting to do it so I can't see how it would benefit him at all. There aren't many by any means and they are definitely just nondescript skinny tall pine trees.

Growing up in GA I saw plenty of pine farms. It was common for people to buy a few acres when they had a baby, plant pine, burn it a couple times, than cut it / sell it when the kid turned 18 to pay for college. This only made money because Georgia pine makes excellent telephone poles. Back then one good pine (30ft straight with no branching) was worth $100! Not sure what the going rate is these days? I agree with others that scraggly little pine brush ain't good for nothin but a roaring bonfire.
