You didn't buy a futures contract and now discover you are short six million bushels did you? It should sell at about $3.50 a bushel at harvest time, then peak at $4.25 during the year. Would take 35,000 acres to grow that and sell for $21,000,000.00

Have you already done some phone calls? My first would be to state dept of ag and a google search for grain elevators in my area.

This forums is an odd choice to ask for so much corn....

Odd question for here.

As well, people in a position to need that much would have the experience to know the answer.

Bunge, Cargill, ADM, Harvest States/Cenex. Others in the grain trading world.....

LOL - love the math. It sure does sound like it is a futures trade gone bad, but anyone playing that game would know that you simply close the trade and take your loss. You don't go buying a train load of product and ship it to the Chicago Merchantile and dump the corn on the trading floor.

Me thinks someone is jerking our chains.

Cool Feed Corn Growers Shippers

NO to be 100 % honest with you it has nothing to do with buying futures ! It is for a contract, I have already contacted Bunge but was unaware of if they were Packer shippers or whether they just bought corn for their own needs

I hope I'm not being presumptuous, but why would you possibly have a contract to sell megatons of something you don't know where to buy?

If I thought I could turn a profit, I could resell bags of corn or even 10 tons of corn and haul it myself. I would know how to get that. But if someone came to me and said they want to buy a big chunk of Iowa production, I would politely decline to voluntarily swim in the deep end while wearing concrete boots.

I liked Haypoint's math so much I decided to do some of my own. You need to procure 15 trains pulling 100 jumbo hopper cars. Or if you are close to the Mississippi, you'll need about 100 standard sized barges. You do own a few tugboats, don't you?

Could be an Eco-Terriorist looking for a way to spread evil? Locate where the bulk of this record breaking corn crop gets movet by and where, makes terriorism easier. Looking for major transporters or major sellers on a web site of small backyard farmers makes no sense. People with 20 million to spend on corn, know where to buy it. Homegrown terriorists might not.

Well, I guess that's the key to it.

Problem is, that first 150,000 tons has sort of stretched Open-Pollinated corn OP a little financially, and they've been let down in the first transaction by a purchaser who didn't pay, so for everyone who wants to tag along for the ride and get discount corn now, they're going to need to pay in advance.

Kinda reminds me of a feller I knew. When he found out I had a farm, he was delighted. He asked how many sheep or goats, I don't remember could I handle. I said I didn't know, and while my mind was thinking of a number he asked, could you handle a thousand. He couldn't hardly understand why, with 20 acres I couldn't handle 1000 animals. He was a city boy trying to make his first million lol.

Hey Beets, I'm looking to invest $10 billion or so in acquiring some under performing public companies. Do you have any idea where I could find a few target companies?

And I'm looking for a super colider to test out my latest theories in quantum physics. Any ideas where I can find one?

And navel lint. Why do I get so much?

Just incase you think such talk is purely an over active imagination:
"The Californian
September 1, 2014

Today the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria is battling troops in northern Iraq. Tomorrow, ISIS may be in a lettuce field near you.

I half joke; the chances of a terrorist attack of any kind in Monterey County is slim - too sparsely populated and it lacks a sufficient number of hard targets that the bad guys like. But what we do have is a food supply critical to much of America. And that could be a target for both domestic and foreign whack jobs.

Hartnell College is taking that potential threat seriously and hosting a series of six "agroterrorism" workshops beginning next week [first weekly course is Sept. 5th]. The Agricultural Business and Technology Institute at Hartnell is partnering with The Western Institute for Food Safety and Security at the University of California, Davis. The Food Safety and Security institute is a training partner of a sub-agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The fact is, our nation's food supply is tremendously at risk simply by the nature of its exposure. Unknown toxins injected into beef or hogs, enhanced pathogens introduced into crops, any number of nightmarish scenarios could sicken or kill thousands because of modern logistics and the speed in which produce is distributed across the country.

Hartnell's series will focus on local first responders to a terrorism incident and coordinating their efforts with those of state and federal authorities. But the training will also be geared toward the agricultural industry so it is fully informed and ready to assume their roles in such an emergency"
