Blueberry jam,Blueberry syrup, blueberry pancakes, Blueberry pie, Blueberry tart, Blueberry wine (very good).

How long did it take you to pick those?
Now for cleaning the leaves out. That's the part I hate.

Wash them and float what floats, bugs, blossoms and such, then leave what sinks. We have wild huckleberries here, very good. That is a lot of blueberries....James

Tabitha, jwal10's right, the leaves float to the top, easy peasy.

I only clean about 10 gallons for the freezer, and a couple more for the dehydrator. You'd be surprised how few leaves there are when you use a berry rake.
The rest go through my steam juicer which doesn't care if there are leaves and twigs, the only thing comes out of the spigot is hot pure juice. The juice goes in quart jars for drinking, wine, syrup & jelly during the year. 8 cases so far, yippie!

Rita, these wild berries literally shout in your mouth!

I missed out altogether last year so a friend near Seattle surprise mailed a box of domestic blueberries from her garden. I honestly had no idea what they were! Thought maybe some kind of blaw small grape? ('til she called that evening to see if I got the blueberries) So sad most folks don't know what they're supposed to taste like.

I've been picking wild berries up here over 40 years and have NEVER seen a crop like this. That's two full day's work, I've picked another 30 gallons since and I"m not going to quit 'til they do. Everything's like that up here this year, the cranberries aren't ripe yet but I can see they're going to be nuts too.

The land is telling me to stock up while I can!

Oh, and Xplorer, if you were to look closely under Bullet's chin you'd see a faint tinge of blue. He sticks right with me all day grazing from the lower branches. I think he's full and needing a nap.

Wow! And here I thought I was doing well because I managed to fill four ziplock bags full. Very impressive! Make sure you don't tell anyone where you found them :P

it is also a decent berry year here in da U.P.

wild blueberries are plentiful. dew berries are now getting ripe, and we have picked enough thimble berries to make jam. usually the thimble berries don't make it to the house or are eaten shortly thereafter. my son has shown remarkable restraint from eating them all. he really wants to make jam.

nice haul on the berries. do you have to keep a look out for bears?

Never have picked Blueberries in these areas, probably would Love it. Here we have Low Bush Blueberries, they only grow a few years after Logging or Fires but once the Trees get bigger there is too much Shade. Plus while they are ripening the Deer eat them at night and Turkeys eat them during the day. It is a fight beating them to them.

Here our main Wild Berries are Blackberries, Gooseberries and Elderberries.
