Angry Peoples Word Means Nothing Anymore

I've kicked around selling Chickens and Rabbits making extra money. Made two trips to Sale Barn, didn't pay for Gas going over there.

Decided to sell some Pullets through Craigslist, had 10 Pullets due to start laying October or November, $7 apiece.

Sold 6 right off. Guy calls said he was going to be busy until today Saturday but would I mind considering them sold? Ok. Woman calls right afterwards wanted to pick up others that evening. I told her no that they was sold.

Today Noon no Guy shows, call him he doesn't answer his phone.

Decided the heck with it, going to put these in with my Older Hens. Once they start Laying regular, butcher the Older Hens and Can them.

That happens all the time with Craig's List!!! I don't promise anything to anyone. I always tell them "first one to show up gets the goods!!!" You will know who is serious then.

I've found that with other people it is best to consider them less honorable than yourself. Then again most people don't understand me since when I give my word I keep it come hell or high water like walking 24 km in -15 cels weather when my radiator sprung a major leek and it would take 3 days to get one (my dad had a conference up north so I had to take care of the animals while he was away)

Craig's List is the greatest collection of fruits and nuts around. I assume everyone on it is full of bull until they show up with money......and even then, you get some nuts.

When I was up in Alaska and getting rid of all of my trapping gear, I had a guy offer to buy the whole lot and meet me in Anchorage (which was about an hour or so drive).

I loaded up everything (a lot) and drove down there. He didn't show, he didn't answer his phone, he didn't email, nothing - just didn't show.

Now, I didn't NEED the money, I was just making some plans to get ready to move out of the state. So I drove back home, put all the traps back in the shed, deleted the ad, and went about my business. BUT, I saved his information.

I waited about 6 months which I thought would be enough time for him to forget/delete my contact information. I reached out to him and told him I was from another town about an hour past me from where he was (2 hours total). I told him I was selling a mess of traps and I thought he had contacted me a while back about them and that I needed to leave ASAP and would give him a screaming deal.

Hook. Line. Sinker.

About 2 1/2 hours later he was calling me wanting to know where I was. I'm not sure what happened, but something came up and I wasn't able to answer or return his calls

Yes you have to just wade through those ones that just want to play games on CL. But all in all it is a good place to buy and sell.
I have bought and sold Horses, both minis and full sized ones LOL also Donkeys, Calves, sold cars, and other items as well on CL.
My friends have bought used vending machines on CL also and never had a problem.
In fact I just listed a 3 month old Jersey heifer for sale on CL. Just listed it 3 minutes ago. LOL

I had a good experience

Yesterday. Guy from my town saw my ad to sell dining room set, and came and called and bought. My daughter even knew who he was. Craigslist is in the next town(larger).

we've had quite a lot of experience of people's word being pretty useless. Not with every one, every time. But, it's been enough in the last few years, that we just have adjusted our expectations to not count on anything. Sort of, an I'll believe it when i see it.

It's unfortunate, cause I don't think it's just us. It seems i hear about similar problems from lots of people. Just kinda sad that people just have to be willing to not count on others like they used to. I can remember when I was a kid, "your word", was a BIG deal. I don't think it's like that anymore.

Fortunately, being a keep to ourselves, take care of our own, type family has helps shield us somewhat. Love the homesteading lifestyle! Makes eliminating others people's nonsense so much easier

Unfortunately I often have to travel a long ways to buy things on craigslist. Before I leave I will call see if the item is there and ask if they can hold it about 10 minutes longer than it takes me to get there. I will give them my name and number .I get very clear directions from them while Im on google maps
It Amazes me how often I get there and its gone.
It amazes me even more when they are surprised I go off on them.

Yup, People don t expect you to hold there word sancrosect. IF ANYTHING comes up that would disturbe them in preforming the duties of their word givin, then all that's off the table.

(WELLLLL, now, You cant/didn't, expect me to be abler to keep my word after??? happened?
They tend to act like your some kind of nut when, indeed, you DO expect them to keep their word, regardless of any difficulity. NOW, when a cats tass trophy occurs, them you ARE being a dass by expecting them to be bound to their word, BUT ONLY THEN.

I got my 70 gallon Rubbermaid tank off of CL. It was brand new, but the guy had never used it. (He was going to make a small fish pond out of it.) And, it was about 1/2 of what I could get it for new. It was a 30 minute drive for me, and I asked if he wanted me to come then, or if I could wait until Tuesday since I would be in the area anyway for a doctor's appointment. He actually held it for me. I was grateful and my horses also appreciate it. While they have an automatic waterer in their field, if the power is out, they have no other source of water. Plus at this time of the year, the horses prefer to drink out of it.

Ya I want to start to sell some of my water tanks as well. I have two 50 gallon ones, and one 150 gallon.
And one 16 gallon heated bucket for horses etc.
And right now I have a person coming up to look and probably buy that Jersey heifer calf I just listed on CL. Already talked to the guy on the phone and he should be here within 30 minutes.

Did you call the woman back? If one person falls through, go to the next person, and keep advertising until all sold.

A side note to my post about a 3 month old Jersey heifer I put the Ad on CL this AM, and within 15 minutes I had 5 E Mails.

She was just picked up, paid for in cash, and is on her way to a new home.
In less then 4 hours of placing the ad on CL.

It's worth doing Craigslist just for the sheer entertainment factor involved. I won't do it simply do to the aggravation factor. DH does use CL but he has much more patience than I do.

My mom's doctor's husband of only 3 months went to Nashville to sell some guns to people from CL....she never saw him again. He was shot and killed and they didnt even take the guns. They were still on the scene. I dont think they ever found the people who did it.

I have never bought anything on CL, but I like the idea of the police dept parking lot..lol

I tried she didn't answer.

We went looked at a Tiller one time. Get there the Guy had it running. Went on and on how dealing with Cancer he wasn't able to garden. Got it loaded, got home it would no longer run. Carburetor, couldn't get parts for it. So I was going to scrap it. Thought no I will be honest sell it at a fair price which I did.

Another time got hold of a Guy on a Dog, told him it was a 4 hour drive there. No problem I will be home. Get there he was no where to be found would answer his phone

Went to sell a Boat Engine on CL, Guy said he wanted it, sent me a Check for more than I was asking, said he had a Guy coming by for it. Call Bank on the Check, No Account. I got back in touch with the Guy told him the deal on the Check, we could get it straighten out at the Local Sheriff Department.
