Missing some of the HT'rs

When I first joined several years ago I enjoyed so much of the advice and recommendations given out by the "old timers." Not everyone agreed and would also give you their advice. You looked at it and did what worked for you in your circumstance. I have been as guilty as anyone about getting annoyed and upset by being slammed for a comment. I apologize for that if I have done it to any of you. We need to get some of the originals back to posting. We need your advice. Most of us want your advice. I definately will take more notice of someone who has done something for years and years than someone who read it in a book. I can read the book and I can look it up online but that is not close to the advice coming from a hands on person who has done something time and time again and proven it works.

I am a farmer. I love advice from old farmers. I have tried many new techiniques in both raising livestock and raising crops but have always come back to some advice received from an "old timer." It is not always the easiest way but seems to be the most tried and true.

It wasn't on this site but a few days ago someone was speaking about buying some sheep from some guy. They referred to him as old school. She said he did all his cleaning of barns by hand so that tells you that it isn't very clean. HAHA I am still laughing. My barn is clean enough you could live in it if need be and I do it all by hand, wheelbarrow, and elbow grease every Sat. without fail and a little scoop up daily. I have a pretty nice amount of livestock. My barn is huge with horsestalls, tack room, and an indoor arena/open area. I feel kind of bad because I honestly spend more time keeping the barn than I do the house.

I don't always agree with everyone on here but at times pretty much everyone says something I find useful. I find that most of the "old farmers/old homesteaders" (not talking about age) say things that I usually find useful. They have been there and done that and it doesn't make me envious or spiteful because they know more than I do. I like to be able to ask them questions and receive answers. I have been known to PM some of them so that it didn't cause a huge debate when asking for advice. I have always gotten replies back and most of them have been exactly what I did.

I too am missing some sage advice and info.. Not only was the info invaluable, the back and forth amongst respectful people with differing opinions saved me from making a few mistakes.

i think that in summer we are all just more busy and spend less time on the internet..I try to get on daily..but sometimes I'm just too busy..the past few months I've been running either myself or my husband to lots of dr, dentist, eye dr, etc appts as we are trying to get them all done right this year..we both had to have some things done that are only done every 5 or 10 years..so that was a lot of busy stuff..and Ron has had 5 dentist appts so far in prep for new dentures and some more dental work..many of our appts are an hour drive or so..one way..i would rather have them done when there isn't ice on the roads..all should be done by end of October !!!

I'm getting new c pap machine, new glasses, dental check up, on a clinical trial for weight loss and am down 26 pounds so far this year, 18 of those in the last 5 1/2 weeks..busy busy busy..

I'll try to get on a little more but next week I have 4 appts so far to run to
