Monocular?

Do to my vision issues I am unable to use binoculars. I am, however, able to use a monocular and would like to get one to watch the birds in my backyard since I now live in a pretty well known birding area. My binoculars that I am unable to use are 12x25 compact Pentax that I used while copping. What size monocular would be good for watching birds who are less than 100 feet from me? Thanks in advance! sis

A spotting scope perhaps?
There are inexpensive ones to be had.

You might wander down to the outdoor sports section of Walmart and get a $10 pair of binoculars. With a set of small screwdrivers you can split them and have two monoculars. I do this to add a telephoto to some of my security cams.

Cover one eyepiece on the binoculars.

When I do that no one else can just pick them up and use them because one side is way out of wack. By the time the things are adjusted the birdy has flown

Oh the joys of sharing! It sounds like a spotting scope would be good for you.

Do you have the lens caps for your binoculars? If so you could leave the large cap on the bottom lens when you are using them. For anyone else they could close the eye with the covered lens. They can adjust to using one eye, after all, you have.

There are several sporting goods stores that sell spotting scopes. The only advice I can give you is to go to a store and try them all out.

IF your going cheaply, you might find one of those pirate telescopes at a toy store, OR on E Bay

Perhaps I'm missing something, but why not just hold one side of the binoculars up to your eye, perhaps using the other side as a handle? There's no reason you shouldn't use a monocular if you want to, but there is probably a lot more choice with binoculars, especially for short-range viewing.

I used the $20 Tasco rifle scope on my .22 as a monocular to inspect my roof shingles when my binoculars were on loan to my neighbor.

I looked as if I was shooting my house but when I gave my maintenance man my shingle check list with roof grid numbers he verified each shingle I had listed had damage and some he had to look at a second time to see what I saw from the ground with my rifle scope during his roof walk inspection.

Hey if nothing else, life is good for a giggle huh. I will find an inexpensive monocular and see if that works.
