Best stand-alone filter for well water?
My well water travels uphill to a holding tank before it gravities down to the house, and despite my periodically cleaning the holding tank, the water always looks pretty grungy. It's kind of ridiculous, but out of a surfeit of caution I've been buying distilled water to drink. Coliform counts are okay, but who knows what kind of bacteria, viruses and protozoa could be growing in that holding tank. I'd like to ditch the distilled water and so am interested in getting a filter--just for drinking water. No sense "hard wiring" anything in--I'd be perfectly happy with a freestanding model that purifies a gallon or so at a time.
Do you have any recommendations? What do you like/not like about the filter you have?
