Drive point water well question

I've searched for the answer but I cannot find one simple enough I guess.

So, will someone explain how a sand point well or drive point functions with a electric pump. Is a check valve even useful with this type well?

(1) Will it need to be primed before each use similar to a pitcher pump?
(2) What type of pump works best with a low flow well with sand point?

Much thanks for any advice.

Our sand points have a check valve placed between the pump and the sand point. Without it the pump would have to reprime every time.

How do you know your well is low flow? What is the static water level in the well?

I installed a footvalve (aka checkvalve) on mine.

Primed it once

My sandpoint wells have a T on top of the well pipe, followed by a check valve, then to the pump. The water in the well pipe will drain back into the ground without the check valve and the pump will have to be re-primed every time you use it as Fishhead said. The T is so I can drain the water if I am going to leave it unheated in the cold weather. The water drains out of the well pipe when you remove the plug from the T. You also have to stick a piece of coat hanger up inside to lift the valve in the check valve and drain it too. Otherwise the water inside the check valve could crack it when it freezes. You also have to open the drain valve on the pump.
