Plan for small homestead

Just purchased two acres that is square. It has a 3/2 house and a 3 stall pole barn that is closed in with tin. We are excited as we are finally moving out of a subdivision. I grow sq. ft gardens now in raised bed and will continue in that area. But what can I do with the rest? No zoning regs, and county water, mainly it is all grass. I was thinking of poultry or maybe even a pig, but was unsure on how much space the pig would need. any thoughts?

If you want to raise a pig, raise 2 or even better 3. They don't need a lot of room if you are only going to raise them from piglets to butchering size....say 40 ft. square. Around here there is never any problem selling 1 or 2 for people to have processed themselves. That pays for the one in my freezer each year. Plan and start an orchard right away as it takes several years to mature

Thanks for the info, I figure I can sell a few pigs, the area I bought in is full of rich yuppies that are dying for anything organic.

Since you raised bed garden and have an interest in poultry, consider building a tractor that'll fit snugly atop your raised beds and running chickens on each bed before planting and after harvest to till/prep/fertilize your soil for you. Both your chooks and gardens will benefit.
