Well Pump question

So earlier this week our well pressure was low and the pump seemed to be running constantly. My father-inlaw who is here helping with our farmhouse remodel suggested we treat it with Muriatic Acid - so we rigged up some poly piping and a funnel and poured a gallon of acid down through the pump. Wow, the water turned orange brown and we had to let it run a few hours a day for the past few days to clear it up. Now the water is clear but has a iron taste it didnt have before all of this. The pressure is excellent now and the pump doesnt need to run constantly. My question for all of you is will the iron taste go away after some time? I assume that the iron is from the well casing due to the corrosiveness of the Muriatic acid removing the scale buildup.

The other question I have is the pump replacement if we end up having to go that route. The well casing is 4" and the pump is about 20 feet down and has a one inch pipe thread on the top for pulling it. There is a cable with a loop on the end at the top of the well with a notification tag on it with instructions on pulling it. I've never done this before. Anyone have experience with wells?

Never pulled but one and it was down 250'.... if yours is only down 20' you are lucky. We simply used the rope on ours to pull the pump up... needed another person to keep the black poly pipe pulled out into the yard.

Surely there are others on here with a lot more experience than I.

The muratic acid would have created a lot of iron chloride which is the "brownish orange stuff". It doesn't take much iron to make water taste, so it may take a while for the taste to work out of your well. Replacing the pump would probably not help much with this.

..........If the pump is running constantly , it is possible you had some kind of blockage preventing the pump from filling the pressure tank........UP........until it reached the cutoff pressure ! Maybe the muratic acid dissolved the blockage and now the pump can fill the pressure tank to a psi level to engage the pressure switch and shut off the pump . , fordy
