European scythe.. putting togther question

So, if you look into another thread that all my mowers and such things are breaking down. Have been waiting two weeks for parts and our grass is growing out of control. So, I ordered this scythe last year and decied it is time to put it toghter. The problem is the instructions aren't for the right one.

The link above is what it is. I can figure out how to put the handles on. The part I can not figure out is this little metal u bracket(not sure if that is the correct name but that is what it looks like). It needs to be nailed into the shaft somewhere but not sure where. Any ideas?

On one end of the snath (usually the bent end), there is a hole on the underside. There is also a nob on the base of the blade. The ring goes on the snath first, then you notch the nob into the hole, and slide the ring up so it fits over the blade. Then, tighten the ring.

Not sure on the handles - this one looks way different than mine (which are glued and screwed).

There is no hole on the end where the blade goes. Do I need to put one in?

The piece I am not sure of is a different piece from the ring. It is a square metal bracket. With four holes on both sides where these little nails go into and a large hole in the middle.

I have a couple from Scythe Supply. What you are calling a bracket may be a clamp. Mine clamps using Allen head screws. No nails or screws penetrate the wood handle.

No, what I called the ring is the part with the allen head screws. This is some other part.

Maybe, when my DH comes home with his phone tonight I can get a pic of the part. In the parts bag that came with the scythe this part came with four little nails.

Keep the ideas coming.

Beacuse their is no hole on the bottom of the shaft for the knob of the blade to go in could it have something to do with that?

I have an American style handle and an Austrian blade. I have never seen one like yours. My handle came with the part to attach the blade to already on it.

Maybe this link will help, lots of pics of European style handles: http://scytheconnection.com/snath-and-blade-fitting/

Eureka! First page.

See that metal part above the ring that holds the blade. That is what I was trying to figure out where it goes and what is it for. I guess I need to figure out best place for the hole now.
