Shake every moving part on the mower. If it don't shake, its probably alright. That includes the wheels if its a pull type. Rotate the sickle.
On the bailer, shake the flywheel. Rotate the flywheel to see how much it moves before the pitman starts to move. Get somebody to watch the bale chamber where it ties while someone else rotates the flywheel. Trip it and watch the needles come in. See the knotting mech work. Look at the needles to see if they've been welded along their length, OR Brazed. Shake it side to side to see if the wheel bearings are OK.
If a bunch of teeth are missing, its likelty been used hard, and may have picked up a buyncha stuff other than hay. IF the teeth are mostly there, it might be a good bailer. As with the mower, shake everything to see how tight or loose it is.
