black locust pods & toxicity

I've been reading that black locust pods are toxic to animals. Should they be excluded from compost that would go on a garden?

Don't tell that to my horses, cattle, sheep, and goats! They all stand in line to munch down on them. That said the seeds do survive the trip through the GI tract. Hopefully composting will take care of them.

Are you folks sure you don't have honey locusts? Those show as edible. Black locust pods are not good for horses, in particular.

I'm thinking the same. Even stripping the bark off of black locust posts and eating it can kill a horse.
