A shed is born (picture heavy)

We needed a pump house over our well so this is what I designed and my husband built it for me, some of it out of scraps. I found the door at a junk shop for $25 and painted it. I absolutely love it!

That building is so cute! Most of the well buildings out here are just bland. Good job!

why do we need a building over the pump? Well, for one thing there are electrical wires and connections that don't need to be exposed to the elements. Mostly though, we want to put a pressure tank on it so we can run water to the barn and pipe it elsewhere and I'd rather it be covered. As it is, we only use it to flood irrigate at the moment. Freezing weather is not really something we worry about here. If we only wanted to be practical, it wouldn't take much to cover it but I wanted something pretty and my husband wanted to please me. He did!

Very nice!! We may do somthing similar when we move to our land in a couple of years. We'll be in a trailer while the house is being built so we'll have a well to use before/during/after the house is built. And we need to protect our well pump/pressure tank during that time.

Thanks for explaining the shed. The soil scientist told us to put one over our well and to insulate it. He also said to make it a walk in shed so someone has plenty of room to work on it if necessary.

Your shed looks great!

That's a legit question. Several reasons:

1) Electrical components, such as the pump motor, kept out of the elements.
2) Plumbing, mainly PVC, kept out of the sun.
3) Freezing temps.
4) Livestock using delicate parts like pressure valves and such as rump scratchers.
5) A place to send the kids to get the heeby-jeebies with all of the spiders, wasps, snakes, etc. In otherwords, character building...

By the way, MissKay, hats off to you and hubs. That is a great looking pumphouse. I really like the door.

Oh wow, I'm very impressed! You have the prettiest, most stylish well house I've ever seen. You must smile every time you see it.

There had been a house trailer on the property here that burned down before I bought it in 1976. The well pump is in a pit and it had a rotten cover on it.
I made a better cover then two years later I decided to build a shed over it to store garden tools and put in a trap door with a steel ladder for pump service.
It is great because 2010 I had to rebuild our pump during a blizzard. We get those here in Michigan. Open door, step in shut door. Way better than shoveling 4 to 6 feet of snow off a lid and still working in snow.
An impeller in the pump had broken and stopped the motor which burned up trying to turn the pump. I love Sear Parts dot com. New motor, 2 impellers, gaskets and seals and the pump is as good as new.
Anyway I built an A-frame shed so it did not block as much of the view.
