Snake Boots

Been looking at snake boots. I have an phobia about snakes and it seems that I can't keep my mind on my work cause I'm constantly looking for snakes!
While snakes were a problem in FL also, the property here in TN is overgrown and I'm thinking snake boots might be a good idea.
Do you use them and if so what kind would you recommend?
I have no experience with them and don't want to waste money on something that won't give me the protection I need.
I hope to never have to test a pair though!

Don't know anything about "snake boots" but I used to be in charge of outfitting researchers going into the everglades. (Years ago) They all chose to wear "gaitors"

When we mow we use snake gators. DH loves them, and they fit well. I have looked at snake boots and they have all been water proof and that makes me think they would be very hot and sweaty. Out here it is nothing to be mowing in 110 heat. DH is the only one in this house that is crazy or tough enough to be out mowing in that kind of heat! Good luck and I hope you never have to "test" them either!

Well I won't be sleepin tonight after that little demonstration! I probably wouldn't have to get snakebit to die in a situation like that, pretty sure the ol ticker would just explode on the spot from the massive dose of adrenalin it would be trying to pump! Snake boots are a must have. Thanks for all the info. I knew folks here would know what I needed.

I just wear my ropers when I am outside working and carry a .22 pistol. Only time I really had any trouble with a snake was because I didn't have my sidearm along. I tried to kill a moccasin with a hoe and the snake struck at me. Fortunately it didn't envenomate but left a double row of scratch marks on the back of my hand from the fangs. I won't ever do that again! Normally a snake will try to get out of your way.

The Chippewa is the best snake boot made. However I wear the Lacrosse Alpha Mudlite, due to working in snake infested swamps with almost daily snake encounters. The lacrosse has much better waterproof qualities. Seth

We have signs on several oil sites around here that read: "Snake Chaps Required before exiting vehicle."

In Moldy language that reads "Do not enter for any reason!!'

I wear a pair of heavy rubber muck boots when I'm in the garden, but our rattlers in this area here are pretty small. I don't think I've ever seen one over 2 feet long and most are around the 18" size. Not even hat band size ...

I'm not too worried about them biting through the rubber. If we had bigger snakes, I'd probably invest in a good pair of calf high leather army style boots. (We have horrible sticky clay mud, so I wear the muck boots to avoid destroying shoes, too.)

We have a new float in the stock tank for the goats that makes a distinctive buzzing whine. Wanna see an Arizona country woman freeze like a statue? Yeaaaaaah. It's gotten me about three times now.

We live out in the swamp and have had problems with Cottonmouths and one Copperhead. When we moved here they were more of a problem. I wore rubber muck boots and never was bit. After we got our dogs and the cat and they spent some time around our property they have seemed to drive them out of the area. The Rat Terrier has been bite a couple of times but has become immune to the bite. She may have been bitten more than that I may not have noticed. The cat will on occasion bring one up to the back porch for us to see that she is doing her part to protect the place.
