Anybody know anything about a David Brown 990

Bought one today. Great grill and hood, GOOD tires, turns like a dream. Got bale buggy spears on the back. $2100.
Im going top get my boy to make up a material list to put extensions on the 3 pt that can be taken off that will raise the forks to 5ft, and have a back guard that will hold a 2 way cyl so as to tilt the forks.
Im going to put and fill the fronts with water, as I don't intend to use it for anything but bailing, as I have other tractors for farming. I have also a 6X6X24in block of iron ill rig onto the front to keep the front of the tractor down when lifting a 4X5, or 5 X 5 bale.
Im liable to have trouble sleeping tonight as ill be thinking I stole it at that price lol.

There is a Case - David Brown forum on yesterdaystractors dot com. They also offer many parts and manuals.

Tough tractors, enough gears, kind of light though. Does it have fluid in the rears. Not the best hydraulics....James

Yeah James, I noticed on U Tubes there were several vids about the hyds on DBs
Why would I need fluid in the rears? This is Okla. Its almost all flat here.

Is it the later syncromesh- 1971 newer? Is it a Case/David Brown? They are pretty light with no ballast, that baler is not light with a bale in it. Starting out on soft ground, Stopping on the road (without bale of course). Not fun anywhere when the machine weighs more than the tractor....James

I havnt found out the exact age yet James. Boy has a duelly, and he said that, at 55 it was causing the truck to fidget around on the road a bit. Its not a Case DB, I know that.
When im starting out, there wont be a bale in it, AND were likely going to be bailing in a low gear anyhow due to the hp being minimum. Its a whole lot heavier than the bailer when its empty im sure.

There were 3 versions over the 19 years. The red implematic or early tractors, the selectamatic and the later syncromesh. Case/David Brown were the later ones....James

Well, as I said, my boys got it at the moment, and is going to take it to a tire store to have the front tires loaded with water before he brings hit home.
