Caterpillar ID? - Homesteading Questions

They are on my wisteria, as you can see. There aren't so many that they're doing much damage so I'm inclined to leave them, but am wondering what I'm encouraging (we have lots of different butterflies).

The caterpillars that form butterflies that I am familiar with are all smooth (not hairy) except maybe for a few tufts. However, there are smooth caterpillars like the horn worms on tomatoes, that are smooth but become moths.

Me too. I was hoping to see something that had been saved from the junk man and was going to be rebuilt!

Sorry. I could take a picture of our tractor... it's from 1947. We got it running yesterday!
