10th Annual Homesteading Weekend - NW IL
Facebook Page
Website Page
A few IL, IA & WI members of HT will be here, please help us celebrate our 10th Annual Event.
The outdoor project we will be having this year is erecting solar panels. There will also be soapmaking & pressure canning Saturday morning. Raw milk ice cream (custard) Saturday afternoon and perhaps some cheesemaking and making butter on Saturday also.
We're not sure what we will be putting on the spit.
Check out one of the links for more information!

If this darling little child will vacate my belly, we will be there. My kids are counting down the days. We can't wait Cindy and Paul. It's so good to hang out with normal people one weekend a year. Lol

When are you due?
I'll check if Risha will be here. She's an MD (and & a normal person!) She is the one who got me started as a doula.
You'll be in good hands.

Well Cassie decided to come last night. We will see how I feel when it's time to come. I was a week overdue. Now my sil will be due soon. So to reassure them that help will be there if needed will be reassuring.

C'Mon HT folks .... less than 3 weeks until the 10th Anniversary
Besides the usual non-planned events, we want to get the grid system put up for our solar system.
Yes, we can do it on our own, but would love to share in the knowledge as we stumble through putting up our own 12 panel free-style (is that what it is called?) solar system.
We'll be sure to take a lot of pictures so everyone can be educated as we learn how to do this!
This is a truly learning weekend. We have launched many a homesteader & have encouraged (and have been encouraged) others.
We are a community and having get togethers such as this makes all of us stronger.

I'm so glad you guys are doing the solar system. Dh and I want to see it done. Dh wants to know if you want him to bring any of his tools? I'm sure Paul has plenty but figured we would ask!
I will be brining my BIG cast iron pan and pancake mix. I know dd#1! Is looking foward to your tea. The rest are mainly looking foward to the black smith shop.

Paul had a super busy couple of weeks before he went to hike part of the Appalachian Trail this past week (be back tomorrow!). He has not gotten the cement footers in place to erect the solar panel system. I don't know how long it takes the cement to cure before we can erect the skeleton of the system or if they need to go in at the same time (yup, I'm clueless).
Pancakes, yay!! I also have a local that is bringing fixings for breakfast burritos. We have about 10 dozen eggs saved up for the weekend.
I'll be gone Friday night from about 5:30-9:30 or so for our last night of VBS (like last year). We have some newbies coming Friday night (single Mom with 5 kiddos). I'm putting you in charge while I'm gone!!! If you don't know what to do, fake it ... they'll never know!)
If you see any sweet red clover on the way down, (and you have time) stop & pick them so we have more for the red clover/stevia/lavender tea!

We took it in for a small hiccup in the motor. Found out the whole breaking system is shot an needs to be replaced. It can't be fixed till this coming up week. Bite of it all is the break job is going to cost more then the van! Talk about a punch in the gut!

All your family was truly missed. A collective groan went up when Tim told us you guys would not be able to make it.
Roberta & Henry were here. Boy has he grown! Still a sweetie! Roberta was a real God-send, stepping up & organizing getting the meals set up outside ...that's quite a job all on its own.
We had some returning folks & a lot of new faces.
We're talking about having a smaller gathering this fall after garden harvest. No lessons, just a time to visit & relax. (Yes, the blacksmith shop will be available!) I'll let you know if & when it is.
