Post For those interested in homesteading - 1934 guide issued by USDA

I found this guide issued in 1934 by the US Department of Agriculture. I found it very interesting and informative. It may also answer many questions that I have seen posted here as far as size requirements for a small homestead!

It's funny how 80 years changed little, and the applications from years ago still apply today...fascinating.
It will give you suggestions on how much land, what type, what to grow etc.
Have fun

If you want some more fun examples how things are pretty much the same, listen to Tom Lehrer songs from the 1960's. Great comedian and song writer who covered what was then, and still is, current news. It all stays the same.

Link worked for me. You may need to update your Adobe Farmboybill. That house on the front page is the spitting image of my SO's Grandma's garden and all.

Some major changes since 1934 have evolved in property zoning regulations.

I was thinking the same thing about a house we moved from about five years ago, and again, down to our garden in the very same place, LOL!
The link worked for me too!

Nice link there Bertneru
I still am not sure what they were feeding their chickens.
I like the plan though and I will add another acre to it and to grow feed for the chickens and goats.
It really is funny that the 1934 book is so good for now too.
