A dehumidifier question.

I hate to let the collected water run down the drain. I know I could save it to flush the toilet but what about pouring it in a watering can for flowers and plants? Thoughts ?

it is nice clean water as far as minerals and salt, it will be closer to rain water than anything else, so watering the plants with it is a great idea. If you filter it enough you can drink it, a carbon filter (or even a britta), then UV or boiling, but drinking direct with no filters is just a horrible flavor

Thanks everyone. My dad was going to try to find short hose to drain directly but I'll stop him. Wait until he hears what I plan to do with it. He already thinks I'm weird because we shower with a bucket and save that water to flush.

However, I get my water bill and just smile. We reclaim so much water around here. His response is 'this isn't CA, why bother'.

The only significant caveats are 1. if you live in an area with a fair amount of sulfur smell you might get a reaction between the acidic water and the fins of the dehumidifier (probably aluminum), and 2. mold can build up on the fins and be washed into the water. For use with plants, I might run the water through some straw or plant waste if I was concerned.
