Does this work ?

Someone with an ant problem try this & let us know .
1 empty water bottle
(Cut it down to about 2" tall)
5 Tbsp of baking soda
5 Tbsp of powdered sugar
3 Tbsp of water.
The very best way of eliminating ants is truly simple:
Take a small amount of powdered sugar (also called icing sugar) and mix it with an equal amount of baking soda (formally called sodium bicarbonate) and water.
Powdered sugar is essential. You cannot use the larger grains of sugar for this..
Mix the two powders together and water then place small amounts against the walls or other areas where you would not normally walk but where you would normally see the ants.
The ants will be attracted to the sugar and will eat some of it and collect more to take home to feed others, so all of them will get their share.
The sugar and baking soda powders are similar in size and, once mixed together, the ants cannot separate the two items, so, as they eat the sugar, they will also ingest the baking soda, which they would otherwise never touch. This is the reason for using powdered sugar.
Once the ants eat the baking soda it will react with the formic acid in their stomachs and cause gas. The bodies of ants are unlike humans and they cannot eliminate gas so it will build up inside and eliminate them.

Ants don't eat "solid" food. They liquify food before eating it. I doubt that would work. Terro (tm) almost always works.

Except when it doesn't. The ants around here laugh at terro for some reason.

Borax would work better than baking soda.
And Borax does work and work well.

I mix it with a bit of jam and place it in a jar lid where needed.
No more ants.

I only have a problem with ants trying to get in thru the windows, a little boric acid powdered on the window sill kills the ants in their tracks

I'm sure this is regarding ants inside, but I learned a long time ago a very effective bug killer is a bit of dish detergent and water.

The detergent breaks the water tension and well dead ants or what ever little crawly you may have.

When I got ant hills out side I just dump a few gallons of detergent mix and take the hose to them. no more ant hills.

A little in a spray bottle comes in handy also.

I'm pretty against poisons.

More for my own good!

But Borax is good also and acceptable in my book.

Borax is not totally benign.

Sufficient exposure to borax dust can cause respiratory and skin irritation. Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal distress including nausea, persistent vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Effects on the vascular system and brain include headaches and lethargy, but are less frequent. "In severe poisonings, a beefy red skin rash affecting palms, soles, buttocks and scrotum has been described. With severe poisoning, erythematous and exfoliative rash, unconsciousness, respiratory depression, and renal failure."[26]

Ignoring that it came from Wikipedia, the amounts required to get to that level are IMMENSE, as in the borax miners of Death Valley days. Too much copper, zinc, potassium can also kill you. Given that most of the organo-phosphates are nerve poisons, I'll take borax any day of the week.

If I'm not mistaken, ants' digestive juices are alkaline.
