Composting

Not so much a question but wanted to share a project that I worked on over the winter. Very easy to do, all you need is two 55 gal. drums,4 toilet hubs,1 section of 3"sch 40 pipe with two rows of holes drilled opposite of each other 4"apart, 4 paddles, 2 in each drum opposite of each other to grab an carry the material around inside the drums...like a cement mixer, stainless bolts,4 hinges, two locking hasp, 8- 3" caster wheels, 4 garage door wheels, and some rough cut wood from your local sawmill....cause I like supporting my local businesses instead of the big box stores. If you want to build this an have any questions let me know, thanks

Nice-----these barrel composters will turn "things" into Compost Soooooooo much faster than having the things in a pile(on a small scale)-----if properly taken care of. Having said that I have sooo much stuff composting that I use the FEL bucket to turn my piles.

Thats what im hoping for, we are putting up a high tunnel an we want to use our own compost. From what im reading we should be able to make a batch every 15-20 days. Does this sound right?

I have four compost bins made of sections of cattle panels. The bins are 4 x 4 feet.

I put leaves and kitchen scraps in. Add goat barn litter on occasion.

Take out compost after a couple of years.

No work, no turning, no stress.
