Tell me about juicer/blender/vitamix kind of things...

I'm thinking about getting a fruit and veg macerating kind of machine -- the kind where you don't throw away all the fibers. What do you have and why did you choose it? How easy is it to clean? Any advice appreciated...

I have a Vitamix -- it does really well, but with vegetables I do strain part of the pulp out through a cloth as I don't like my juices too thick. 2 minutes in the Vitamix on high is supposed to break down the cell walls, which is what "real" juicers to in order to extract the nutrients.

I love my Vitamix. I've had it forever - like way back before I had kids and could afford a $350 blender.

It's super easy to clean; empty it the put water in it with a dash of soap and whirl it around on the base, rinse and dry. It does so much-we make smoothies in it, peanut butter, I've made flour from sprouted grains (I don't anymore because it can get really hot but I know of others who do). I wish it wasn't plastic .. but really, what isn't plastic anymore?

I have a vitamix and have had it for several years. I can't imagine being without it. I also bought my sister one.

Another vote for the VitaMix. It couldn't be any easier to clean! Warm water, a drop of soap, hit the clean cycle and then rinse it out.

I think we're going to go with the Vitamix, when we have the money. It's made in America, and the company has been around a LONG time, so what they have now is the end product of much design improvement/development. Hopefully, we'll only have to buy once.

Vitamix is overpriced. However, mine was bought new in the 70s (was expensive then too), all stainless steel. It has never stopped working. Love the quick reversal from forward to reverse. Very noisy though. Good luck in whatever you choose.

Your appliance has been working for 40+ years -- seems it was worth the money. I'm figuring we'll get a refurbished one. They run about $279-299.

I'm not looking forward to the noise. I hate noise. Maybe I can make a soundproofed cabinet for it...

You may want to look at Blendtec as well. We have currently narrowed it down to a Blendtec or a Vitamix. The Blendtec is very tempting with the more powerful motor and same warranty. Still looking at all of the reviews we can find before we decide.

Another vote for Vitamix. Yes it's overpriced. But it has been priceless for the amount of greens I now eat hidden in no sugar, no dairy smoothies.

I just added the dry blade and container to my VitaMix and can't believe I waited this long to do so. I have a Country Living Grain mill which I adore, as I grind all my wheat and rye, but when I want to change grains, I have to finish grinding what's in the hopper as there's no way to dump it out. And some things require me to swap the auger out to grind.

Now when I want just a bit of a different grain (like a cup of rye flour, or maybe some bean flour to thicken a soup) I just dump it in the VitaMix and it takes about 60 seconds! LOVE!

But my favorite use for my VitaMix is making compost tea. Every morning, I toss the previous day's egg shells and veggie scraps in with water, liquify it and pour it in my garden.

I bought the dry container when I bought my vitamix. Love that thing! I also have a Ninja and it is good but not as good as the vitamix in my opinion.

Love my vitamix! I make rice and nut milks, smoothies, blend sauces, make hot cream soups and grind grains in it.

Yes, vitamix. That thing is powerful. If I needed to make toothpicks, I might just throw a 2x4 in there- lol
