Got To Love HOA

Had a HOA Meeting where our Cabin is. We got there early thinking we would start building on what we had permission to do long time ago. Tried digging for a Pier, hit rock and more rock. Forget this. So we go look at two empty Cabins how they did, the better one, had Concrete Block that hold 4X4 Wood Post for Decking, plus put a small Beam in the middle.

Then we got to looking at our Cabin which is a Portable 10X20 Building, it is on two 6X8 Beams, setting on Concrete Blocks been here several years. Ok what we think now, pour 10 Footings, dig down best we can, make frame for our footing pour it putting couple Rebar coming out of it. Once it has set, lay Concrete Block in , fill with Concrete, put Anchor Bolts in. Make 8X8 Beams out of 2X8, set them on the Blocks Anchor them down, Floor Joist on top of this.

10AM go to HOA meeting, was informed we now needed a Permit to do any building. Get back to the Cabin draw up detailed plans. Take plans up get Permit, it has details what we are doing and have to have it done in such and such time.

Was also told we have a Community Well which people are taking advantage of and if it don't stop we might lose it. If need be we can have our own drilled cost about $10K. Good News is they changed the Laws on Tax Properties bought at the Courthouse, which we have so now we can do what we want.

Rules

There's an HOA here. All I can say is UGH! One where DD lives. DD didn't get their Christmas decorations down fast enough. Letter came about Jan 10th.

Sorry big rockpile, geeze?! What will you do? Sounds like a hostage situation...

I shudder every time I hear "HOA." We just recently purchased a property, specifically outside of any HOA's, and just far enough out of town for our comfort level. Also, just due to the nonsense that prevails, we didn't want a shared well. Been there in the past, and have a MIL and FIL, who wishes they weren't on a community well (nothing but problems).

Yep, I'm with the others. When I built my first house 10 years ago I checked - no HOA. A couple of years later a HOA-President-Wanna-Be tried to get one started by sending around a petition to all the houses in the neighborhood. I declined to sign. Fortunately enough people must have that it never got off the ground. After 8 years there we decided to purchase a property with some acreage and move out of town. The number one criteria was "no HOA". Most of my friends live in the city and I honestly don't know how they put up with the HOA restrictions. One friend wanted to put a flower bed in her front garden and was told to draw up plans and submit them for approval. Really? To plant a few flowers? My feeling is, while I'm paying the mortgage I should be able to decide where and when and what to plant where.

Home Owner Association, it allows covenants on what can or cannot be allowed in your neighborhood.

You mean that control your neighborhood and tell you what you can do and not do on your own property. Sounds like a nosy neighbor of a landlord that you rent from.

When we lived in a housing addition with a HOA they demanded I cut down the cherry tree I had planted in the front yard. I could have an *ornamental* cherry. Just not a real one!! We moved out of there as soon as we could

Because we are on a Lake we can't have Septic, we have to have a Holding Tank. They have let us have Composting Toilet.

If we was to Drill a Well and put in a Holding Tank it would cost at least $20K.

We've dealt with this HOA for over 30 years and haven't had too much trouble we're more worried about DNR and COE.

Everytime one of these HOA threads come up it gets me thinking what kind of HOA rules would I want to start with if I ever subdivided the ranch. Just a few to start:

1. Every houshold must raise at least 1 chick for egg production for human consumption.

2. Every houshold must raise at least 1 animal for huiman comsumption.

3. Every houshold must grow X amount of edible garden per houshold member

I think those 3 should suffice in keeping the citiots out that what to destroy farm/ranch culture.

I despise HOA's... however, I guess for all those people that invested a ton of money in their home with neighbors right on top of them, if they want to maintain the best value they can for their property, ,you need an HOA to keep the riff raff from destroying the neighborhood values..

I guess for the richer, it's an evil necessary. Myself, I've never bought a house as an investment.. I buy because I need a house.. If I want an investment, I invest in a sure bet.. Houses aren't in my eyes....

My sister has one, only they call it a POA. Personally, I think they should be called a PITA! I hear POA and I think Pony of the Americas. Of course, the POA did let them know that there have been alligator sitings in the "lakes" (retention ponds) in the area.
