This is from nearby NE Washington.

Pretty unusual to see that many together since they are normally solitary animals.

My shoer told me the story of one of his clients here who would lose an occasional goat. When she found her lama half eaten, the state hunter came out and killed 6 mountain lions within a short distance of her house.
Truth is, because our ancestors kept these preditors down, we don't really know how solitary they are naturally. I suspect their density is conditioned on the prey density. And that domestic animals increase that prey density a whole lot.

I don't think they are as solitary as thought. The state came in here because of a problem lion and found 9 of them living within a 15 square mile area. 9!!!

Cougar cubs can stay with their mom for up to two years so its probably a mom and her near adult cubs. Also cougars are not nearly as solitary as once thought. A very interesting read.

It did look like an adult and 4 younger cats. Cool to see!

Not just early settlers and farmers kept them down, Natives made a concerted effort to keep numbers down near their home areas...
