Anyone homesteading in the Evanston WY area??

I'm looking for folks gardening, raising livestock, etc. up this way. I recently relocated to WY from TN and have discovered that so much is different!

...........Wy is the best place to live in the lower 48 ! Even with the long winters and below zero temps the mountains and desert are mind numbing in their beauty . You are blessed ! , fordy

I lived in Evanston for awhile…..a few years ago now but I LOVED it there. The growing season is short so you will want to choose short season varieties. It never gets truly hot there. If it reached 90 in summer that was a hot day. I miss that now that I live where we get numerous triple digit days each summer, but I don't miss the long winters. I moved there in January and didn't even see the roads until April/May!!!

yes the long winter has definitely been a shock to my system. I planted onions and strawberries and the next day it snowed on them!

Nothing a greenhouse or sheet of clear plastic won't fix. I start planting things in my garden as soon as some of the days are warm and pleasant and just cover everything with sheets of clear painter's plastic at night and days when the weather freaks out.

A friend of mine has some giant clear boxes that she uses.

May 1st is onion planting day along with other cold season crops.

Rest of the garden gets planted over Memorial weekend.
