Does anyone else have a problem?

I can never quite get across what I am trying to say on here by typing it. Usually I end up with folks attacking, etc...and I am huh? what? where did that come from?

It must happen to others too because many times I read their posts and I am like huh? what? where did that come from?

I'm pretty sure that sweet potato, yam and pumpkin pie are basically the same thing.

I mean, once you consider the wide variety in the percentages of each spice in the commonly used mixture, doesn't the seasoning take over the flavor so much that it doesn't really matter what the signature ingredient of the pie was supposed to be?

You always get me. That's all that matters.

Just call me a square pie.

Deleting my accidental duplicate. If they don't get you the first time, try the same thing again. You are ok.

DD says I need more smiley faces.

DD: "Dad, they'll think you are serious!"
Me: "Too bad. They'll get over it."

And furthermore, it is policy around here to never be snippy at anyone with 'grandma' and their birthday day, month, and year in their user name.

It happens to most (if not all) of us at one time or another. We simply do not all use the same speech modalities. Some of us have a "visual" method of explaining ourselves; some an "auditory" and often these two have difficulty understanding each other.

The one CONSTANT that can benefit anyone posting is to make "I statements" instead of statements that "define" or interpret. Check this out and see if it helps.

Just be yourself and explain the issue as if an actual person is face-to-face to you. Give the facts as clearly as you can and that's about it.

If someone attacks you, consider the source. That person is a faceless, nameless, anonymous person who you don't know, so you don't need to play them any attention.

Well that is good to know. Sorry but birthday not so much. LOL I would explain the numbers but hey it's a family secret. Even the kids didn't get it and it was all about them years ago. Their comment to me when I told them was......"mom, sometimes you are so weird." Haha

They say we only transmit 17% of what we mean by typing it out, vs speaking face to face with a person. So much emotion and inflection and content is lost.

It takes a real pro to write a good message, and even for those who are good at it, how much time do we spend crafting a short message here?

Add in the different phrases and thoughts we have in different geographic regions, and it is amazing we can communicate at all in this way!

I tend to be a get to the point person, I also have a sarcastic sense of humor, and neither of those come across well in this typing deal, so I often am very misunderstood. Or at least, I mean to be friendly and it comes off as not....

And even if you perfectly craft it, many people miss what's being said in the speed of leaping to conclusions. And actually, although there's a limit to it, having to repeat one's self helps think it through.

I have that problem every once in a while. I had a stroke and used this site to get back some of the speech that I lost. I didn't have any other way to do it. I am better now but sometime it comes back. This site was a blessing for me.

Well, you know the old saying: "Put a thousand monkeys in a room with a thousand typewriters and in about a thousand years they'll produce the complete works of Shakespeare"..... Well, with the computer, things have sped up a little. Some of those monkeys have managed to advance to the cheap dime novel stage........
No smileys this time.

The thousand monkeys habitat the internet, jumping on people who aren't prepared for an attack. That's what all the "prepping" is about, prepping for the flying monkey attacks.

Personally I found yrs ago that I was not making full descriptions and left too much out. That and reading what you wrote after you post it can help to some degree. There is an edit function for the writer so if it doesn't sound right you can edit the posting. I also had problems with limited computers and ended up writing posts off line and then cutting and pasting them into a message. being I have dyslexia and memory issues from a TBI punctuation , spelling , and speak ease were always an attack from the more diligent english folks. Truth be told I don't remember having issues here on Homesteadingtoday.com but others I had to leave because the folks were mean and just plane unpleasant folks.

See I did it again. I am not offended by the attacks as a matter of fact many times they are justified. I just wondered if I am the only person whose mind kind of goes 100 mph while my typing is at 50 wpm. This was a great thread. It shows me some others do the same. BTW my keyboard also needs replaced so at times my mind is at 100 mph, typing at 50 wpm and the keyboard is in a world all its' own. Thanks guys HT is awesome.

I notice there are some who can write a post and I read it and have a clear understanding of what they are trying to convey, and then there are those who repeatedly post stuff that I have to read and reread to understand. Its like trying to unwrap a riddle of mixed up thoughts.

This is a tricky medium to communicate in. Without body language, tone, eye contact, gestures, the meaning of our words can get misconstrued.

I think over time we learn who we are on the same wave length with.
