Question about Texas & Wayne Co. in MO

We have found a couple of very pretty, affordable properties in southern MO; one in Texas County & one in Wayne County. We are planning a trip early next month to actually see them; if they would work with my medical needs

I have a very severe allergy to smoke including an immediate, severe throat closing respirtory reaction , so my question is; do all stores, restaurants and meeting places allow smoking in either Texas and/or Wayne County?

I can avoid some places so I can stay away from the smoke but if every place allows it, we may have to look for other areas or states to check out. I'm not trying to tell others how to live, I just need to know if it's going to be dangerous for me to even go to the feed store or out to lunch.

Any information would be very helpful and appreciated.

The state of MO allows smoking in VERY select places, MOST are non-smoking, except for bars that sell over/under a certain amount of food. After that, it is up to the counties/communities to decide what is allowed.

A great many places that don't allow smoking INSIDE will have people who go outside to smoke.

Perhaps you might consider another state.

Thanks Frogmammy, that is what I wanted to know right from someone who lives in that vicinity. The realtor made it sound too good to be true, if you know what I mean.
I don't want to live where it is hard for me to breathe every time I go off my land and I also don't want to make others feel uncomfortable around me & my medical condition.

We will probably check out other states first online then in person if they sound good.

Happy Easter.

In that part on the country would be more concerned with people burning of Forest land 2+ months a year. Lots and lots of smoke.

Thank you Big Rockpile. It's not just cigarette & cigar smoke that bothers me, it's all smoke as well as other chemical scents, so that is good to know. It is something I'll watch out for no matter where we check for land.

I developed this odd affliction later in life, I was 54 when I had my first bout of breathing problems.

I would think it would matter more where you choose to go. Where I go, mostly grocery stores, and feed stores, and in Spring, maybe greenhouses-no smoke there. The same smoke bothers me, maybe not as bad as you, but it does bother.
If you plan on living in a apartment, you might have problems--but just in general, no problems.
I live on a farm--and if I smell cigarette smoke--then I have a prowler!!

Also note that rural areas such as the MO ozarks many people burn trash since there is no trash service (except private haulers). A lof of us heat with wood and have camp fires. Wildfires are no uncommon and the forest service burn 1000's of acres every year. This spring Mark Twain has over 50000 acres scheduled for controlled burn.
