Well point/water source & horses

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question...if not please direct me to the right forum.
How far away from a households main water source should any livestock be?

I believe any feedlot needs to be setback 100 feet from a well. You don't want it downhill from them either where run off could get down the casing

I guess the answer is: It depends. Soil type? One horse or a hundred? Cased well or old brick one?

A few times a year I let my 2 horses do the trimming right around the well head. Around here a septic tank is supposed to be 75' from a well but they will give you a variance to 50'.

It depends.

Minimum 100 feet to any corral or area livestock are concentrated.

Mine is 100 feet from my corrals and lagoon - but it's downhill from both. The water is bacteriologically clean due to the distance, but it is contaminated with nitrates. Use your head and remember that water is always flowing underground. Talk to old timers or drillers about the local water veins and aquifers and find the direction of flow, sometimes it is very different to what you expect.
