Greenhouse Reviews (not homemade)

Hi friends,

I have gotten more serious in my gardening and shop lights on my window sills are no longer sufficient. Our house isn't very big and we have too many small humans and nosy creatures for me to set up shelves for seed starting anywhere below about 4 feet off the ground. At the moment we have a bit of extra money and no time, so I am not looking to make my own greenhouse at the moment. I've searched the old threads, and while I may have missed something most of the info centers around DIY greenhouse projects. I wish I had time for it, but we are going to buy something.

I found this article, which has been helpful: http://www.squidoo.com/greenhousekits

But you all are my trusted go-to for real people with real experience with things, so I was wondering if anyone who has purchased a greenhouse has recommendations and/or product reviews. We are at the very beginning of this process. I would guess we will use it primarily for seed starting, but possibly also to keep some things like dwarf citrus or other things year round and maybe even to grow some annual things to maturity. We are zone 7b and have nice long seasons but also real winters from a hardiness perspective.

Thanks so much!
Sandi

I'm of the opinion that in most things farm related one should go commercial or go home.

There are prices quoted there on the squidoo in the $1000-1500 range for a 8x12.
I was recently looking for a greenhouse for our place and was quoted $2500 for a 20x45 "half commercial" double-walled poly tunnel where the space between the walls is inflated by a blower. This is warmer, sturdier, has much more headroom and has almost 10x the interior space for only double the price. And I'm sure you could get a better price as we are in Canada!

I'm sure you could find a use for 900 square feet of greenhouse space. I plan on getting one, for sure!

We bought a Julianna many years back. It has been well worth the money. It was blown apart by a hurricane once. I fetched its parts out of the pasture and the woods and we put it back together (with a few extra drill screws) then about 5 years later it weathered baseball sized hail. That hail was actually worse than the hurricane. But again we pulled the panels back out and patched it back up - more drill screws and this time silicone caulk to seal the holes. LOL
Dang good green house if you ask me!

I just bought a Handi-House brand, We live in northeast Georgia. We paid $2300.00 for it plus the cost of putting in a floor, I used concrete pavers. It had no floor which to me was a plus. I put in shop lights from Lowes and ran the wire for the electricity plus the pipe for the water. I got one of those curly-que hoses to keep down the clutter plus I went ahead and ordered a shade cloth so we would have it when we needed it.
The greenhouse is 8X10 and is anchored down. I got this for my wife(she is crazy about it) and we have our first set of seeds planted in potting soil. It is made with steel studs which I also like as they won't rot, I hope. It was NOT a kit, it was delivered on a truck and set into place by the company that we got it from.
I hope this helps you in making your choice. We also have a hoop house that I am going to pick up in the next month. We hope to extend our growing season with it.
