Is Casper feel'n guilty?
OK, So here's the deal. I've go a 6' oak desk in my basement that I use as a "catch all". About once a week I clean it up 'cause it needs it.I planted seeds late week and have them in the dark and went to the desk, picked up my flashlight and there under it was a pack of "Big yellow watermelon seed" with my hand writing on them.
Now,understand, I got these seeds in 1983 from an 86 year old man at a church pic-nic 140 miles from here. I have looked for these seed for ever! I have no idea where they came from. Nothing in my basement is even from that time period, and My seed stash hasn't been around there, and I've moved 4 times since then. The only thing I can figure is Casper is feel'n guilty for teaming up with Murphy by stealing my hammer I used to take the deck up and fix the sewer pipe Murphy messed up when it was 6 below zero.
Life is gett'n strange!

Space-Time ripple. Happens all the time. I'll walk 3 rooms away to get something---completely forgot what I went after. Get 2 rooms back to were I was and then remember. Yep, the ole space-time ripple.

AARP says as we get older, our experiences are greater, so we have more confidence in everything we do, driving, remembering where we put stuff, doing taxes, etc. But the facts prove we get less capable as we get older in most things. So there is this train wreck in our brains where we think we are smarter than ever, while out IQ heads downhill. Get ready!

That's actually a humbling thought that I suspect is correct. Something we should keep in mind as we get older. I've seen it in me when I am driving somewhere I have been before and know I can get there on my memory. Then, it doesn't work out that way. However, my wife has an ipad that she uses to navigate. This last weekend we were on our way to a place we go only once per year. It is tricky. I told her I was pretty sure I could get us there. She was using her ipad. We got to the last intersection and she said go right but I felt it was really left we should go. I kept quiet and followed her directions. They didn't pan out. The ipad was wrong. I turned around and went right to the place. I probably just got lucky as I could have just as easily been wrong.

Hmmmm, ok I'm gonna' play Dana Scully........it's a desk. Well, does it have a drawer? You could have had the pack of seeds get stuck under/behind the drawer for years, even moved the desk and never know it! Then, when you were in there just now, you moved the drawer? Seeds fell out onto the floor - you say they were under the desk?
Mulder, you have to look at the scientific facts here....

Na! They were ON the desk. It's only a couple years of being mine. I kind of took mental note of things and the nearest thing I can figure is that the wood stove is the only thing in the basement that I owned back at that time.It gets 8 cord of wood pushed thru it each year so that's not an option.I can't figure it out!

Ya! I was thinking the same thing today. I've got them in a damp paper towel and sealed in plastic to germinate as we speak. I'll be shocked if any do after this length of time but I'm hoping!

Assuming you started all of the seeds he gave you, 2 will germinate!
Once you see the sprouts, report back and I will reveal to you how they landed on your desk.

Well,I guess it's time for an update,if y'all are interested. Those 32 year old watermelon seeds are germinating! I started 7 this morning with sprouts. I can't see how they would remain good after this many years but they have. I'm leaving the rest in the wet paper towel and will see if any more take off. It's just hard to believe !

That's fantastic! Super Seeds! Could you please bump this topic up later to keep us updated on the plants progress? I hope you get a bumper crop of melons with lots of viable seeds to collect from them.

Okay, I went back and see that they're "big yellow" and I wanted to edit that part out but I have no idea how to do that. I should have spent more time with out daughter on posting threads instead of eating and kibitzing.

For anyone interested, this fall,(if I get a crop from these seeds) I will be happy to share seed from the biggest and best mellon I get. If you are interested it'll be up to you to keep in touch 'cause I'm not a real computer person and can barely figure out what I'm thying to do while I'm doing it.
When the time comes I only want a SASE and will get it right back to you.
