Farmall Super C

What are the opinions of the uses of a Farmall Super C. Found out my Grandpa has one buried in the back of the shed that "he says" was overhauled and parked and just needs a new muffler pipe threaded onto it. Wondering if it has the power to disc, plow, pull drill. He also has a Ford 9N that I can bring here. Which one would be best for small homestead. I know that they are not what some have but these are being offered form Grandpa for FREE!!!. HAHA. Thanks.

I've got my dad's old Super C in an outbuilding. When I was a kid it was already old and we used it for raking. I actually learned how to drive a tractor on that Super C. Like most old tractors, it will do most anything if the machinery is sized to it. Raking was nothing to it. I would think discing would be fine if it's not a big drag: I'm pretty sure I pulled a pulverizer out of the hedgerow to use somewhere else that was original to that tractor. Plowing, a smaller two bottom should be fine. My dad grew a lot of grain when my folks were first married and he had that tractor then. It should do anything a 9N would do. The last time it was used was probably 20 years and it had a Woods mower mounted underneath and he used it to mow the front yard (several acres in the front yard here).

The real tractor guys should be along soon to give better info on them, though. I'm not much on the mechanics of things, just know my own stuff, and I only was around that when I was a kid.

If they were my Grandfather's tractors, though, I'd want them BOTH!

They are pretty handy. Does it have fast hitch? It will pull a two bottom plow. Cheap on fuel. I learned to drive on a Super C.

Not sure about the hitch. They will both end up on our homestead when it is all said and done, along with a lot of other cool farm stuff. haha. For now he is offering one.

A friend uses his c for cultivating sweet corn and mowing the yard. The 9n can be used for plowing and discing the garden. If you can find one they made a buzz saw that was 3 point hitch and you can cut wood with it. I had a 9n that I used for the driveway. I used it for the things I mentioned that you can use it for plus hauling hay wagons. There's a lot of equipment that you can find on ebay and some tractor websites for them. All I've done is punch in farmall super c or ford 9n and you'll get a lot of results for them.

On FLAT ground it will pull a 2 14. On hilly ground, a 2 12. There a great tractor. IF it has the pulley, you can run a buzz saw or a hammermill. It should be able to pull a 10ft single, or a 6ft tandem disc,

depending on the hitch-fast hitch or 3pt,u'll have 3pt on the 9n.for all around the farm/homestead the 9n will do it all.sooooo much used or new 3pt equipment around!not so much fast hitch.if your c has a 3pt-their pretty well matched.i've owned both before.around 20hp,yes 2bottom 14 is common plows and 3pt hitch is great for garden or field.i'll be using mine in 4-5 weeks.if u need help-tech-parts-advice on these old tractors?join us at www.yesterdaystractor.comsee ya!

The Super C has almost the power of a straight H but is lighter and easier to maneuver. They pulled 2 14 inch plows in heavy soils if weighted properly.

They have 4 speeds ... the 9N will have 3 (unless equipped with a Sherman auxiliary transmission)

The Super C has live (continuous operating) hydraulics... and the 9N hydraulics will only operate when the clutch is engaged .... which is a big negative.

Fast hitch is nice if you have implements .... there are adapters which will make 3ph implements work with the fast hitch (with varying success). Fast hitch can be easily converted to 3ph since you already have a rear rock shaft to provide the lift.

9n will be wide front and the Super might be tricycle

The Super C will be a row crop configuration with easily adjustable rear tire spacing and clearance to cultivate crops.

The Super C will do lot more field work in a day compared to the 9N and the operator will be more comfortable.

The foot pedal arrangement on a 9N stinks.

Parts (new and used) for 9N are cheap and available .... and you can even buy a re-manufactured engine)

Both tractors are easy to work on.

9N is handy especially with the 3ph ....... But if I had to farm much I would take the Super C. They are a balanced easy to maneuver tractor with lots of power .... but you need to add weight for traction to use that power

Dad and grandpa had a C and an M before I was born(not a "super" C).
Along about 1960 they were starting to get ready to plant and the M blew the engine. They plowed, disced and planted 200 acres with the C. That fall they pulled an old 66 Allis-Chalmers combine with the C and harvested that 200 acres. It was a pretty good crop, I guess, because Dad bought a Super 90 Massey Ferguson to farm with before spring.

USUALLY, If the handles are in the front, its a tractor drill and will have a rope trip mech like a plow. IF its horse, there in back with the operator.
