Relocating our family to Idaho ( Lewiston area ) questions

Would love any info/suggestions/must-haves on the area as we are coming from Kentucky. Looking for rental on a few acres of land.

Thanks and God bless....

We are north of Spokane, sort of in the area. PM me if you have any questions general to the area.

You need to prepare for a major geographic difference... climate etc and a major culture shock... gone will be dry counties, a church on every street corner, things of that nature. Say goodbye to the dogwood and redbuds... other than a few domestic varieties planted in someones yard. As to similarities...Your local politicians will be just as crooked as the ones you had here.

It would help to know where you are coming from. The reason? We have nicer weather than N. Dakota, cooler than San Diego.

Being a smaller area, we also have less in the type of rental house and property you are seeking. It is available but be expected to pay $900 to $1500 @ month.

Look up Ray J. White property management for rentals and Lewiston Morning Tribune for newspaper rentals. Try Judy Higgins for property sales, a decent house w/ horse pasture is going to be in the 230K neighborhood.

The city of Lewiston has many animal prohibitions, no roosters in city limits, 4 hens limit etc.

It seems it would be better to look in the surrounding areas for more rural housing.

By the way, Welcome to a great area!

PS, we have floods of dogwoods, redbuds and churches. Any type and flavor you prefer.

If you have guns and reload, Lewiston is reloading central! Speer has their factory outlet there, where you can buy bullets in a paper bag. Get a rifle big enough for hunting elk.

Prepare yourself for COLD winters. Minus thirty antifreeze in your car's radiator is not enough. If you don't already know how to ski, now's a good time to learn.

Lewiston is right in the middle of the Paulose, the wheat growing capital of the Northwest. If you don't have a grain grinder, I'd get one. At harvest time they pile the excess wheat in piles 20 feet high.

The Moscow/Pullman area just to the north of you is where both state universities are. Night life there is better than Lewiston and there are lots of educational resources there, like the university libraries.

When you get to check out the soil, scratch down an inch or two and look for a lighter grey colored band. That's the volcanic ash for the Mt. Saint Helen's eruption in 1980. On protected rocky outcrops you can still find pools of ash.

Lewiston is in what we call the banana belt... its much warmer than the surrounding areas.

In April they have the Dogwood Festival

The Orchards area of Lewiston must be where its zoned for animals as there are all sort of animals sprinkled throughout the area. Used to be even a camel up in the Orchards.

If there is an inversion Lewsiton valley stinks because of the mill

Dh commutes to work in Lewsiton

Welcome to the area, when are you arriving?
