Best books on soil science

I would like to educate myself more before we actually get onto the homestead. I am the sort who wants lots of background information, the overall framework/paradigm of a subject so that I can build my understanding from a solid foundation. What are your favorite books about soil science? Growing hay? Favorite homesteading or growing or animal husbandry books in general?

The Nature and Properties of Soils by Brady and Weil is a great book. Dr. Weil was my soils professor in college, and that was our text book.

And for homesteading, I like The Self Sufficient Life and How to Live It. It covers many topics and there are lots of nice illustrations.

Here's one I enjoyed, learned a lot, and have frequently cited in HT discussions. It explains a lot of science without getting overly academic. The best part is that it is free from the SARE web site.

Soil and Health, by Sir Albert Howard. (http://www.amazon.com/The-Soil-Healt.../dp/0813191718

Also, a very interesting and well-designed publication, Small Farmer's Journal, from Oregon. Lots of good info each time it comes out, also online. http://smallfarmersjournal.com/
