oh, i thought that was what "live pto" was..... i'm gonna have to wait anyway but my uncle is the chief supervisor for a large sugar plantation. he knows all about these things and knows diesel inside and out. he'll be visiting me later this year , i hope. i'm sure he will help me. anyway i'm getting a quote for a little bit of dozer work this afternoon to see 1) if i can dothe section where i need to fence for my goats 2) if a large tractor like this is worth it for this work.

Woohoo! I got an estimate for $1500 for the clearing and dirt work! Will be filling up the chasm of garbage!!!!! Yay! Wow so much cheaper than the first company I dealt with. Thought it would be like $5K. $400 minimum so I can do the work in segments. They can clear the whole fence line in one go. Soooo relieved. There is justice in the woods after all. God bless.

If you do the work in segments I assume several trips back & forth for the dozer person . Will travel time doing it this way add to your total cost ?

no he's gonna push it into the big gully that is filled with garbage so its a twofer.... the fencing area gets cleared, the trash piles in the back gets cleared and everything goes into the huge gully!!!!! so that gets filled. he's an old timer.... gave me a little history about my place. used to be the guy here would let people dump trash into that gully which is why it is full of junk. he said he's done cleared this place a couple of times and people always trash it back up..... woohoo! i wanna celebrate!

Thanks. When you get the gully the way you want it, I would get some straw for cover or plant it real heavy to annual rye GRASS, you can put pasture seed in with it. I would also get some trees or bushes in there to stop erosion as that is what looks like has happened before. You may want to put some straw dams across the waterways before they erode and to catch any sediments. Do not leave it bare. I am just going by the pictures you posted earlier. Did you get anything planted around the pond yet? Might want to do it before it dries out and won't sprout the seed or support it IF it dries out early....James.

live pto means you can stop the forward motion of the tractor and the pto keeps going. ford made a hydraulic pto that the brake band got weak over time, not sure on the cost these days but was reasonable.

i have rye and clover along the embankment but haven't been able to plant anything. the erosion is crazy and the place is a muddy clay mess after rain. was going to purchase some hay rolls this coming week and unroll them and plant mammoth red clover and alfalfa and crown vetc for soil improvement and erosion control. i'm planting the pasture with the same minus the crown vetch. ricky, the dozer guy, pointed out a few problems which naturally arose out of all the previous dozer work and the problems that might arise in the work ahead, like you point out. hope i can take care of things little by little. he's so much more affordable than anyone and down to earth, seems real trustworthy... im so relieved.... i think i can get some huge problems taken care of so that i can make this place productive again.

Really easy to get an incorrect idea in ones head . I was never to proud to ask questions . The only stupid question is the one you don't ask . Although you run across people that act like they know everything I've never met one that did .

Tango sounds like things are looking up for you. A good dozer guy is worth a lot and sounds like you may have found a good one.
